      Hi Carolyn -

When you click on the Feeds > RSS – Posts link, it should take you to a page where you can select which application you want to use to subscribe to the blog.

If that doesn’t work, you can always go to your favorite reader (such as Google Reader), and enter the direct blog URL from there (http://bernatyarns.wordpress.com/)

If you still have any questions, feel free to send an email to Knitalong@bernat.com and I can walk you through it.

hi leslie, i hope you can help me. just joined bernat and am working on a bernat patteren that calls for a sl 1 purlwise. the previous row was all purl. what does this instruction mean? can you please shed some light? thank you lee

      • toni says:

Yes. In a class now. Learner that is the preferred direction to do slip stitch … unless told to do differently in pattern. Simply means to slip by entering the stitch on left needle with the tip of the right needle entering the stitch from the right and move (slip it) to the right hand needle. Thus SSK is slip 2 and then knit them tog. off the right hand needle.

Some times I worry because even if i have lots and lots of yarns

Some times I worry and feel guilty because even if I have lots and lots of yarns, I’m always visiting craft stores, Internet yarn sites to order and never seem to have enough yarns.
I live in Bogota, Colombia and when I travel I take one bag just for my yarns. I especially buy Bernat yarns as they are so pretty and difficult to find here.
My husband some times complains but at the end laughs and cooperates.
I knit with a group of friends and we knit hats for charity with left over yarns and donate to hospitals or women in need.
Reading some blogs I find many women are like me obsessive with buying, stocking yarns and knitting. Then I don’t worry or feel guilty about it.
Thank you for everything you do for us knitters.

The thought of crocheting along with other crochet lovers is fun. I look forward to sharing a project with others. I am starting a beginners crochet class September 30 with the assistance of the local Parks and Rec department. Wish me luck. That is also a new venture for me. I just want to share my gift with others.

I think it is so great that you are doing a Crochet-Along! I have to admit that I was bummed last year when the project was for knitting. It is nice to know that the Bernat people remember there are those of us who prefer crochet.
Like the others, I placed my yarn order for the project.
I ordered the same colors, but substituted “wine” instead of the lavender.
The hardest part is going to be the wait and remembering to check the blog on the 22nd.

  73. Sheila says:

Is clue 2 square supposed to be bigger than square 1?

  74. Gabrielle Ludwig-Martin says:

I am involved in the Mystery CAL Afghan, and I am EXTREMELY disappointed already. First, I am an advanced crocheter and know how to swatch.

My first 2 squares came out the required size, however they are both as stiff as dinner plates. While making the 2nd squares, my first came out the required the size but had a lot of ‘drape.’ The second square was a nightmare, since I swatched, and redid the square 5 different times without making gauge. I finally managed to make the correct gauge by going back to the J hook, but had to crochet so tightly that my hands ached horribly before I even finished.

Something is very wrong with the pattern. I have used up 2 skeins of my yarn, and I would like them replaced. I was doing mine in True Grey, Redwood, Topaz, Bronze and Teal. I would like 1 skein of True Grey replaced, and 1 skein of Bronze replaced so that I may make an afghan of my choice that I know will come out correctly. This afghan was to be a Christmas gift for my husband of 35 years. He was very excited when he found out I was making it for him, but I will NOT present to him an afghan that is a mess. If I have to, I will buy the replacement skeins of yarn to make an afghan fit for my wonderful husband, but I will NOT continue to make these squares that are going to be a disappointment. He probably wouldn’t notice the difference, and just be happy with it, but *I* will know that it could have been a thing of beauty and one he would cherish…

I am terribly concerned for the beginning crocheters out there who will end up with an afghan that does not drape properly, or who will eventually give up while trying to make an impossible gauge and not know that they did nothing wrong, that it was the pattern.

I, for one, would not want an afghan with squares as stiff as dinner plates in it. While washing it would soften the stiff squares, it would also make the ‘droopy’ squares even MORE droopy.

I had heard good things about the KAL’S and CAL’S by Bernat, and I may try one in the future, however, I am on another group where people are doing this CAL together, and also having or complaining about the same problems.

All I ask is the return of my 2 skeins of yarn.

      Hi Gabrielle –
Sorry to hear that the Crochet-Along was frustrating for you. We hoped it would be a great opportunity for beginning and advanced crocheters alike.

I have sent your concerns on to our customer service department. In addition, the designers are taking a second look at the design to see if there are any issues with the pattern itself. We’ll let you know if there are any changes.

  75. Julie says:

My instructions don’t seem to have saved the right way, can anyone tell me how many squares we do for Clue 1?

  76. Kat says:

Wow is there a problem, geez tell me now before I pop the labels on anymore skeins

    Hi there,
I would like to know if there is a Bernat pattern for a child’s hoodie size 8 and up. I have the pattern up to size 6 but I need a larger one now. If not, can anyone tell me how to increase to a larger size?????? I have tried other makes of hoodie patterns but believe me I love the Bernat one the very best! thanks to anyone that can help I appreciate it!!!

  80. Diane says:

Bernat Boa Holiday pillow to knit- You will need two skeins for each color to complete the stripped pillow. One skein of each red and green is not enough to complete project. You will be short a couple of inches. I did purchase two at the start of this project. Didn’t think one would work.

  81. Rhonda says:

Need DESPEARTE help with a pattern!

I hope this is the correct place. I am working on the above free crochet pattern. I am making it for a size 12 months.

I have my 6 1/2 inches completed, and now I am trying to figure out the “shaping of the sleeves” section (on the top of the second column on the pattern).

It says to “Ch 13″. I don’t understand if I am supposed to continue crocheting an extra 13 stitches (making the “block” and then having the 13 crocheted stitches coming off to the side). Then turn.
Then half-double all the way across, make ANOTHER 13, TURN,
and then crochet again over the 58 stitches.

This particular section has me so confused. I wish there was a picture or something.

Any help in understanding is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

  82. Audrey says:

Hi, I started this pattern and love the idea. However, it appears that with each row the pattern increases (because of the 3dc in each ch portion). Could it be that it is supposed to be 3dctog instead) I can not find any corrections. Can you please help.
    Thanks for your time!! Audrey
