very soft great for baby projects
I’ve never used Alpaca… my reason: enough people I know are allergic to wool – so it makes more sense to use something I know will not be problematic, also why burden someone with having to hand wash and lay flat to dry; a gift should be useful and easy care in my opinion….
Unfortunately, I’m allergic to all kinds of wool, so I can’t work with Alpaca. And I’ve used Bernat Super Value on so many projects, it has become the basic yarn for me.
I’m allergic to wool so would choose the Super Value. Love all the colour options.
I haven’t used Alpaca…don’t like wool and it’s impractical for families I knit things for…but I LOVE the Super Value: it makes a much softer baby/toddler sweater than another brand’s equivalent yarn! I especially like the brighter colors!

For a staple yarn, I would definitely have Super Value because of the cost factor.
This is gonna be a close competition! Super Value is perfect for blankets. Alpaca is lovely for garments.
