BY (Bernat Yarns): What’s your favorite type of crocheted item to design and why?

BB (Brett Bara): My favorite things to design are amigurumi, granny square projects, chevron blankets–all easy things! I’m really not much of a technical crochet designer so I love to create easy projects. To me that’s one of the things that can be so great about crochet–even with simple skills you can make really cute, fun projects.

BY: What’s your favorite piece of crochet advice?

BB. Just have fun with it! One of the great things about crochet is that it’s quick and it’s so easy to undo mistakes, so there’s no reason not to experiment and try new things.

BY: What’s your favorite Bernat yarn?

BB:  Sheep(ish), of course! Not just because it was created by my friend Vickie, but because it’s a great yarn that’s a nice weight for crochet and I LOVE all the bright, modern, happy colors.

  4. Marolee Smith says:

i love to crochet scarves and baby blankets and hats, quick and easy is what i reach for when I crochet

My favorite thing to crochet is blankets. Baby blankets are my favorite because they are small enough that you can try new things but you don’t get board before they are finished. Thanks for the chance to win!

  10. Kathy says:

Thank you for sharing your story! After I had crocheted afghans and more afghans for family and friends, I switched to smaller pieces, vests, scarves, children’s clothes. Although I have not picked up a hook in years, and until recently, never made anything other than an afghan, I have really been enjoying rediscovering crocheting again, and really having fun trying new things!! Recently been making things for my young grandchildren (hats, purses, headbands, booties) and excited to try my hand at Amigurumi. I love watching Brett Bara on TV, she makes everything easy to understand and keeps my interest peaked!!

I love to crochet and was taught when I was about 10 years old. I am now retired & have all the time in world to be creative with my crochet projects. I’m currently trying to make new things like hats and sweaters.

  29. Chelsey N says:

My favorite things to crochet are doilies.

  30. Theresa says:

My favorite thing to crochet is doilies using crochet cotton. They look great under everything around the house and make great gifts–so many of my friends say they can’t crochet with the thinner cotton. I love that doilies are portable enough to take to the drs office or work on while I am riding in a car.

  31. June says:

That snake looks soooo cute; however, I think it would be safer, if for a child, to embroider the eyes, and not use beads… as we know, some children love to chew on teddy bear eyes, etc. and could choke on one. Just a suggestion for super safety? Can’t wait to show this to my friends who crochet. Thank you.

  32. Dawn P says:

What a cute snake. Reminds me of the fun-fur 1 my Grammy made me when I was a youngster. My favourite item to crochet is Cross Bookmarks. The picots r a challenge but the finished project is really nice. Gave many away as gifts & sold some 2.

  37. Sandra says:

I started crocheting again just before Christmas and I am “hooked” totally!!! So far I’ve loved making hats, slippers and quick easy projects. My favorites though, and this might well be because the grandchildren have so much fun with them, is amigurumi. This book looks like it would be great for more project ideas.

  38. Jackie Watson says:

I love to crochet hats, cowls and fingerless mitts. Also headbands and baby stuff!

  39. Gina says:

I love to crochet everything!Mostly nowadays I make tops for my grandaughters.

  40. Sharon says:

I seem to do best with ripple afghans and blankets. I love the look of blocks, but I’m terrible at joining.

  41. Stefanie F says:

So far, I’ve mostly done baby things, edgings and shrugs for myself. A little amigurumi. I’m pretty much an adventurous beginner in crochet but it is so fun! I’ll be taking a more advanced class and the project calls for Bernat yarns! Cute snake pillow pattern – thanks.

  42. Rolande Fontaine says:

I crochet for the “Pink Posse of GA” where I am known as the “Pink Posse Hooker”. They help qualified cancer patients with utility bills while they are going through chemo treatments and are unable to work.

I also crochet for childhood cancer.

I met a lady in the yarn section of a store and discovered that her niece was a young teen going through cancer, so I crocheted hats for her and am told that she loved them and as I sent several that she received joy from giving some of them away to other patients in the children’s cancer facility. She is doing well now and has recently won a beauty contest!

My mother taught me to crochet when I was 8 (I’m over 60); I consider crochet my legacy and my joy.

  54. Nancy D says:

Hats, scarfs and mittens are my usual projects. With a crocheted animal thrown in now and then! These smaller projects are a great way to use up that left over yarn too. Which I’m going to concentrate on this year. Clear out the old to make room for the new :)

  55. SusanDuke says:

This last winter crocheted a lot of slouchy hats & ear warmers for my 5 grand daughters..was so very rewarding & fun. Also, like to make small projects to give away to friends & family for special holidays like St. Patricks Day, Easter, Halloween, etc. Your book looks great. The hat on the cover caught my eye immediately.
Couldn’t find any crochet books like this last winter so had to rely
on the internet for patterns. Karen

I like projects that go quickly, so I can try something else next! My favorite is probably stick horses–I have made a dozen or so for children of my friends. If a project is too involved, or takes too long, it ends up in my UFO (unfinished objects) pile!

Oh, stick horses sound great. What ages would you say they were for? Also where might I find the pattern?
      Thanks, Rae

  71. Cynthia Chapman says:

My favorite thing to crochet has always been a baby blanket, because it’s such a happy occasion, and all babies need a made-with-love blanket.
Other than that, I enjoy making small items in happy colors for gifts. I tend to avoid anything that requires construction – to me, that’s too much like work.

  72. Ruth Ann says:

The snake is cute! I’ve been crocheting for 2 1/2 years and have enjoyed learning. I’m definitely “hooked!” Would love to win the book!

I love to crochet cowls, and my 11 year old twin daughters have recently been ‘hooked’ as well, and are making bracelets and headbands. Book looks awesome!

  85. Nichole Bailey says:

Kind of new to crocheting. Taking up the hobby because of being bedbound with knee surgeries. I have made earwarmers and scarves in honor of the Sandy Hook Victims and have given them away to the seniors at my mother’s senior center that she runs. All of my Christmas gifts were crocheted items this year and everyone loves them. I try to learn new stuff all the time and I am very interested in your book:) Thank you for the free snake pattern I am about to attempt it this weekend:)

  86. Patricia Legare says:

Cute snake, love all the colors.

  89. Diane Fryer says:

I love the snake….and I’m sure myy 2 year-old grandon will, too! Thanks for sharing the pattern!

Also, your book looks great, and I’d love to win a copy! I’m ill and disabled, so it takes me quite a bit longer than most people to finish a project, so I tend to stick to accessory type projects. I especially like fingerless mittens because it’s essential to keep my joints warm for me to be able to continue crafting, and so my carers hands aren’t too cold when they come in and touch me with their cold hands! LOL!!!

  90. Mary says:

I love to crochet baby items and afghans. Enjoy watching Brett on Knit and Crochet Now,

  91. Kim says:

I love to knit and crochet. Presently I’m working on an afghan for my daughter. I would love to take a look and maybe win this wonderful-looking book!

  92. Rae says:

I love to crochet! I crocheted or knitted all of my Christmas gifts last year, 3 afghans, one was a Spider-Man in action pose, one a granny squares with matching pillow, and one done in blues and greens in the Larksfoot stitch. Also made 2 cowls, both a Vickie Howell pattern. I made 2 infinity scarves, a pair of fingerless gloves, all the Angry Birds as stuffed animals, with matching hats. I designed forts/castles to go along with 24 knights in four different colored uniforms and shield. The castles have working draw bridges. The knights are made with wine corks inside. They are so cute. Shawls, purses, and over things completed my gifts. Now I’m making children’s purses, children’s novelty hats, and lots of stuffed animals. I love to crochet!! I have been crocheting for many, many years now. I have a hard time picking what my “favorite” thing is to crochet. I love crocheting, and love making just about anything! I guess I would have to say I most often make clothing and accessories, followed by home decor and toys. Just put a hook in my hand, a skein of yarn o a ball of threa by my side, and I am a happy hooker! ;)

I have just started learning how to crochet [ I have been knitting for 50 years] as I needed a wide crochet hem on a lovely dress for my great-niece`s birthday an it turned out great! I bought a book off ebay to learn all the different stitches and I am making an afghan using the different stitches in different colours, it`s so easy why did I wait until I was 56 [57 in 3 weeks]. My mum thinks it hilarious as she has been making small knee blankets for the “old” folk at the local care home, she is 82 this year nad makes clothes for the prem unit at the maternity ward with all the odds and ends she has left over from knitting. If I won this book I would need to lock it up when she visits as I never let her see my “small” stash in my spare room, or some would disappear into her bag.

I love to crochet anything for my boys. My latest projects were bean bags, washcloths, a scarf, and now a Bible cover/carrier. All fun, quick projects. I am almost done with a large granny square train afghan since my boys love trains. Next up for myself is a beautiful shawl with some type of painted yarn, but I haven’t found the right pattern yet!

  106. Ginny Brennan says:

I loved watching your tv show. I don’t seem to get it in my area any more. I taught myself to crochet, as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and it is easier in my joints than knitting.

  108. Catherine McLernon says:

I am a first time grandma and am loving re-visiting all the baby patterns I used for my children.

I also love crocheting my own designs that develop as I go. I love the sculptural possibilities of crochet. I have made a teddy bear with bells and a dolly for my grand daughter this way – both without filling so they would be easy for her to hold. She loves them.

I usually make useful things (like hats and wristlets this winter) but I like working on lace edgings like my grandmother used to do, only I stick to quite simple patterns. Life isn’t as peaceful and quiet as it was in her day and interruptions always make me lose my place, so simple patterns are easier to find my way back into.

This lady,Brett,is my hero!Istarted watching her program like 4 years ago,I have the DVR set to record every week,so I will not miss a thing and I can watch it learning, and I did learn, she encouraged me to try crocheting, and Lord and behold,I can do it!I love her pattern of the week, and with that,I tried all the crocheting patterns and I would rewind and rewind to make sure I was doing it correctly..My favorite of all are baby things, even though I am 56,no babies anymore, and not a grandma,I have done for my nieces and friends with grand children and new moms and have some tucked away for when my sons ever decide to get married and have children, both sexes..Don’t ever say all you people you cannot learn to knit or crochet, because I am a knitter,it was hard for me to adjust but I did and at 56 with Bretts help on tv and her books, and guests.. I have learned to crochet..You are my” HERO”

I love crocheting just about anything as long as I have Bernat yarn at my disposal. I don’t use anything else, and am having a hard time finding Bernat at my local WalMart.
