Have you heard about the new Bernat Crochet & Knit-Along for charity? We are making baby blankets for Project Linus, a very worthy charity.
Their mission is to “provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans”. Sounds like a perfect place for our charity knitting and crochet!
It’s easy to join in the project. Bernat is providing two free knitting patterns, and two free crochet patterns to choose from. Just pick the pattern you like, get your yarn, and get started! You don’t have to stop with just one baby blanket either. Make as many as you want. (I’m making all four!)
The two knitting patterns are:
Baby Jacquards Parquet Blanket
and Baby’s Breath Wave Stitch Blanket
The two crochet patterns are:
and Bernat Baby Coordinates Wavy Ripple Blanket
You can see what yarns you need for the blankets on this page: http://bernatcares.com/make/knit_and_crochet-along.html
If you’re looking for a fast knitting project, I would recommend the Baby’s Breath Wave Stitch Blanket. Bernat’s new Baby’s Breath yarn is thick, and the stitch pattern is easy to memorize. I’m making mine with “Baby Pink” and “White”, for a girl.

If you need fast crochet, go with the Big Granny Baby Blanket. The double crochets make the blanket grow very quickly, and the pattern is SUPER EASY. I’ve decided to use Bernat Satin Sport for my blanket, because I want nautical colors for a boy. My yarn colors are “Seashore”, “Clear Sky” and “Aran”.

The other two blanket designs are so sweet! The Baby Jacquards Parquet Blanket uses that lovely new Bernat Jacquards Florals yarn, which makes such pretty flower designs! I’m using the “Orange Blossom” shade, because I just love orange and pink together for little girls.
I’m using a different yarn for the border of my blanket – Bernat Softee Baby in “Warm Rose”. I think these two yarns look so nice together!

I haven’t started making the Baby Coordinates Wavy Ripple blanket yet, but I’m really looking forward to starting it. I’ve chosen some colors that remind me of fairies. Bernat Baby Sport in “Sweet Grass”, and Baby Coordinates in “White” and “Soft Mauve”.

What yarns and colors have you chosen for your blankets? If you’re looking for more yarn options for your blankets, try looking at all the sportweight yarns on this page: Bernat Light Yarns. Those will work for all of the blankets, except the Baby’s Breath Wave Stitch Blanket. The yarn for that blanket is super bulky, and has a light, airy feel. It’s the only one of it’s kind in Bernat’s yarn supply.
Once you have chosen your pattern and yarns, be sure to let us know you’re participating! You can reply here on the blog, OR you can join us in our BRAND NEW DISCUSSION FORUM! Woo Hoo! Bernat heard our request last time, and set up a nice place for us to talk about our blankets. Come join us!

I am a little late getting started on this KAL/CAL but have my pattern and the yarn ordered. I do have a question about the previous CAL – the Mystery Afghan. I was looking at the pictures of the finished afghan and fell in love with it, so I am backtracking and making one for myself. I have all the clues downloaded except for #5 – I couldn’t find that one anywhere. Is there any chance anyone on this project did the Mystery Afghan and would be kind enough to share that clue with me?
Hi Linda –
You can get the clue from
