A feel-good project for the New Year

Project – Caps for Good
Blogger – Teresaknits

The Caps for Good project is simple — knitting and crocheting caps for newborns in need, to be distributed by Save the Children health workers in developing countries. Bernat is asking every crafter to knit or crochet at least one cap, which will be collected through February 28, 2011.

With the accumulation of quite a stash of scrap cotton and acrylic bits and ends, I knew I had just what I needed to whip up a few infant hats. Plus the colors were bright and fun, making them extra cheery for both the babies and the parents.

Here’s what I came up with:

I hope you will help with this worthwhile cause as well.

We’d love to see photos of your finished caps. You can email us your photos and stories at inquire@bernatcares.com.

Yay! Such pretty baby hats, Teresa! :D

I’m crocheting some hats, using some Bernat Softee Baby I’ve had in my stash for a long time. I’ve never crocheted with tiny yarn like this before, and it’s so fun! Each stitch feels like butter in my fingers, and the little hat is so precious! Isn’t it fun to make these tiny caps?

The pattern I’m using to crochet my hat is here:

Shandeh – I love making these little hats! So cute – and so fast! A great nearly-instant satisfaction project. :)

Sandra – the pattern I used was from the GoodGoes website, http://www.goodgoes.org

This sounds like a neat project. Thanks for writing about it!
I have a lot of small balls of yarn a friend gave me…I think I’ll use some of them for this project.

Thanks so much for posting this. I also have lots of left overs from various projects in many bright colors. They take only about an hour and I’ve already made 6!

Got my hats mailed to Caps For Good, I ended up with 50 hats, it was so much fun !! Was only able to send a few dollars with it, but I’m praying these hats go to children that have a real need. Thanks Bernat for making me aware of this great program…I’m doing the blanket and looking forward to the start tomorrow !!!

So sad to see that Caps for Good has ended. I am happy that I got in right at the last. My hats will now go to our NICU @ Harris Hospital, Fort Worth.
