Mostly I’ve made mittens for my boys and a few fingerless gloves for the men in the family, but never have I made mittens for myself.  To that end, I cast on for my first mitt.  The pattern is fairly straight forward–a good project to work on when your attention is needed elsewhere.

And really, how can anyone go wrong with ribbing and seed stitch?  Despite the freakish appearance of my unfinished franken-mitt, I’m feelin’ mitten love.  The extra long cuff will be quite welcome come winter time–although the one draw back is that it takes a wee bit longer for the length to grow (of course the other problem could be too many distractions–too many projects going at once and only so much time **sigh** the knitter’s eternal lament).

Since I have smallish hands, I’ll have to keep an eye on the hand length (work 6″ instead of 6 1/2″).  By the way,  did I mention one mitten is finished?

Doesn’t it look purty with all the wee seed stitch bumps and lovely colour changes?  With cooler temps just ’round the corner, I’ll be grabbing these as I head out for my daily morning walk to work.  Now if could just put down some of my other projects, maybe I could get the second mitten started . . . .
