Fifteen years ago, when I bought my house, the 1970′s kitchen was ugly. Today, it is STILL ugly, because we can’t afford to get it updated.

Since I can’t afford to do any major overhauling of our 70′s kitchen, I think I’ll just go with the flow. Let’s go 70′s all the way! GROOVY! ![]()
Bernat has recently come out with some fun, mod colors that will fit right in with my “old skool” kitchen decor. So, I’m going to knit a tea cozy, dishcloths, and a towel with some of these new shades. COOL, MAN! ![]()
I’ve chosen some new colors of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton for some fun dishcloths. The colors “Mod Blue”, “Tangerine”, “In Motion Twists”, and “Mod Twists” should work perfectly.
Check out my new “Mod Blue” doily dishcloth! FAR OUT!![]()

I used Bernat’s free pattern “Doily Style Dishcloth” for a VERY fast knit. This doily only took one day to make!
Now, I’m ready to get started on a towel, using the Mod Blue and Mod Twists yarns.
Stay tuned for my next post – Same Bernat website….Same Bernat blog.
Peace Out! ![]()

This post came just in time for me. We are considering buying a house built in 1972 that needs some updating. I was thinking of staying with the style and just refresh it and make it my own. I love 70′s style since I grew up in the 70′s. Keep us updated on your progress and I might steal some of your groovy ideas.
Cool! I’m not the only flower child!
Maybe we should start a 70′s club, so we can find all the others with similar kitchens. Ha!
I know one thing – my hubby never complains about ours. As long as he gets good food to eat, he’s a happy guy.
But, I enjoy having bright colors. Makes cooking more fun.
You talk about a 70′s kitchen – I drew the plans for the house we live in now in 1976. We had it custom built in 1977. My first kitchen had all dark cabinets, all the appliances were avocado green with Formica counter tops that were white with licks of green in it. The walls were pale celery, and the floor was Armstrong soft touch in a green marble pattern. I updated it 10 years later to the “latest” trends. Redid it again 15 years after that. The house just had it’s 33 year birthday in August – at times I think I’d like to redo the kitchen again, but do I want to go through the month of no stove, everything in boxes, and the refrigerator in the utility room doorway, while everything else is in the dining room? We do the work ourselves, hubby built custom homes for a living until heart attack number 3 in 1996, now he just picks a part of the house and works slowly at changing it. I’ve replaced the stove and double oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave in the past few years with a combination of black and stainless. That alone changed the entire appearance of the room. Since my range-hood has a light oak ornately carved covering that matches all my current cabinets, it doesn’t matter that it is still a very light beige up under there as it still works beautifully.
Ooo! Can I borrow your hubby to redo my kitchen?
Hubby can’t believe you’d want him – “You didn’t even tell her I put you in a cermaic tile floor, TWICE. Or how I built you an enclosed pantry area, made the doors and all myself! Or how I had to be creative when you wanted me to put in a triple stainless steel sink in a base cabinet made to hold only a double!” He really is good at building and remodeling! He’s just not as fast anymore since he had bypass surgery and heart attacks number 4 and 5. But I’m sure glad to have him around!
You are VERY blessed to have a handy hubby! My hubby complains if I ask him to get clothes out of the dryer for me!
nice kitchen I love and the discloth is beautifull
Thanks Francine!
Groovy dishcloth! It looks so complicated for a fast knit!
GIve it a try, Teresa! It’s made in the round on double pointed needles, and the design is a lot of fun to knit. It’s so cool just watching the flower create itself in the circle.
