The Bernat Mystery Afghan Crochet-Along is a hit across the web, but it has also grabbed the attention of many members of the Bernat Design Studio. We’ll check in weekly and let you know our progress as we Crochet-Along.

This was another easy one for me, the Granny Square is the only thing I know how to crochet with my limited crochet skills. The only tricky part is the middle, but if you remember to crochet into middle of the circle and not into your stitches you’re good to go. Also I found that if your first round doesn’t look like a square, it best just to restart. I had a few organic shapes in my first attempts.

Working a granny square is fast and easy. I hope even the newbies found this one easy. Again, I was able to get through my two squares rather quickly. But now I’m starting to worry: what comes next? Will I have to work 20 copies of a clue? I guess that’s the “mystery” part, LOL.

As a new crocheter, heading to the granny square meant familiar territory. The only big crochet project I have completed was a BIG granny square afghan. So granny squares – I know. Charts, however? I’m lost. I took this opportunity to force myself to work my granny squares off of the chart. Now that I’m finished, I think i sort of understand this chart business! I love that it is a visual representation of the stitches, and is so much easier to follow (assuming I’m following it correctly). Hooray for Granny Squares! and Hooray for Charts! Here’s hoping the rest of the squares are this easy.

I just found this blog and project and am going to jump in right away! My dilemma is what colors will I choose? Which goes with who am I going to make this for? I give away most of what I make. (I’m making 15 hat and scarf sets for Christmas this year!)
I’m the same way and always give everything I make away however this time around my fiance said I have to keep this one for myself
I’m a little behind but I’m not worried. Hope you have a great time! Good luck and Happy hooking!!
Leave a 16-20″ tail to faciitate sewing squares together at the end
You can do that if you like, of course. The intent is to sew them in later with an almost invisible seam. I have weaved in all ends throughout the project.
I moderate a group of crocheters every Friday afternoon at our LYS and we’re all working on this project. Two of us have changed yarn combo’s because what we thought looked nice didn’t really work once we got to Block #4. I’m now making new Block twos and threes to catch up by Wednesday.
Lovely to see these, they look great.
Yeah! Now I have an avatar.
I’ve chosen fern, natural, summerset ombre, soft taupe and rouge for my colors. So far I’m really happy with my choices! In two days I’m up to Clue #3. I think this will take me through the weekend since I have to make 8. Still behind, but I’m hoping it won’t take long for me to catch up.
Just thought I’d say I am enjoying these squares .. I loved clue 5 I think its really neat .. I am anxious to see it all put together at the end . .. And by the way I do not have a website I dont know how to get a website . I dont know much about computers ..
I missed placed clue 2 – could someone tell me where I can find Clue 2? I have all the other clues and trying to catch up between school and working 2 jobs, but I want to finish this project. Thank you.
Hi Debbi,
I am just starting to work on my squares (funny how family responsibilities take priority over my hobbies). I found clue 1 and 2 in the September Archives. It shouldn’t take too long to catch up!
Thank you so much. I looked in October and did not think to check out September. Now I am happy and going to get this mystery rolling.
Here’s Clue #2:
