For my next project, I will be knitting a rug to put by my kitchen sink. I can say that here. But when I tell a non-knitter/crocheter that I am knitting a rug for my kitchen they often question my sanity.
So, while I’m well aware that “they sell things like that at the store” and I appreciate that my friends “have one I’m welcome to have”, I am still prepared “to take all that time” to knit my very own kitchen rug.
Why?
Well, you know. I love the yarn, I love the pattern, I love to knit and I’m excited to see what happens when all three converge and a kitchen rug is created.

I applaud you for knitting your own rug! Handknit or crocheted rugs are MUCH nicer than storebought ones. I made one for my bathroom, and love the feel of it under my feet every morning.
TOTALLY UNDERSTAND! We get comments all the time like that but for us when we see something we could buy we think “I could make that”. Feels better when you make something vs buying no matter the money or the time you put into it.
I give you much credit for announcing to all that you are knitting a kitchen rug! I am also in the process of knitting a kitchen rug, but unlike you I have been too much of a coward to tell anyone, because no one in my family knits and doesn’t get me. When I told them that I was going to sock club they sounded mortified and told me that I can buy 5 pair for $10 at Wally World.
I need a rug for my kitchen too – what a great idea! I love how yours is coming out.
What a great idea- we have hardwood floors which do not like the rubber backed type of rug you can find easily. I am going to get the wool to make my own and start tomorrow!
Totally get what you mean. Only a fellow needle buff would understand. Nothing is better than having something in your home that you created yourself. You know all you none needle friends will want one when you are done. Love the pattern.

I totally get it. I will start mine as soon as yarn arrives. I love the idea. We too redid our kitchen floor in wood last winter and I hate the boughten rugs we have. I can’t stand them. They are disgusting!! THese could be washed so easy!Love this idea, It is the right one for me!!
I totally get it. I just started crocheting a rug for…I don’t know where yet…using scrap yarn. I picked up a book with scrap yarn projects this weekend at a yard sale and couldn’t wait to get started making this rug!

My daughter crochetted a small rug for in front of her bed and her aunt liked it so much she made another one for a present and her aunt has it in her kitchen. Now she is making one for the hall bath. They are wonderful. If you put one on a tile or wood floor some grip materials is sometimes needed to keep people and cats from slipping. Although watching the cat slide the first time was curiously funny.
