I am pleased to report that operation change-the-legwarmer-pattern-to-fit-an-older-child is a success! Turns out that I didn’t need to add any stitches to the leg circumference of the legwarmers to make them fit a six year old child.
Of course the length changed significantly. The pattern’s 12 month size called for 1 ½ inches of ribbing at the top and 1 ½ inches of ribbing at the bottom with 5 inches of knitting between the ribbed cuffs. For my (on the tall side) 6 year old, I did 2 inches of ribbing on each side with 9 inches of knitting in the middle.

In all honesty, these could have been a tad longer but, I’m happy with them overall and my daughter loves them!

Aww – so pretty! Nice work
Too funny about the zero stitches. Which in hindsight isn’t surprising because babies have chubby little legs. I feel like we are in the same boat about these learnings!
