Yarn, Needles and … Crayons?

Project –  Mitered Blanket

Yarn – Bernat Baby Cakes

If I had known how much math and visualization was required for yarn crafts, I might not have signed on. But now, as a certified addict, I am willing to overlook and sometimes even embrace these right-brained skills for the sake of knitting.

Case in point: The Mitered Blanket.

I knew when I saw the pattern in the Baby Gifts book that I’d want to do something a little different with it. More colors, maybe, or a different scheme. Perhaps even a monochromatic color scheme. The possibilities were endless – but I needed to see them before I could decide.

Having access to a graphic designer husband, I asked him to whip up a template of the blanket diagram, then went to work with my daughter’s crayons, coloring in this part and that until I had a pattern I was satisfied with. (Note: If you do not have access to a graphic designer husband, good old graph paper will do.)

Here’s what I have come up with, using squishy soft new cotton-acrylic Bernat Baby Cakes yarn.

Now I’m anxious to put down the crayons and get knitting!
