I try to be an eco-friendly gal. So when I saw the Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Eco-Kitchen book, I knew I wanted to give some of the patterns a try.

I’m starting with the three round baskets to knit, as a birthday present for my three-year-old. They are knitting up remarkably fast, and the Handicrafter Cotton Twists yarn is making the process more fun by varying the shades of each stitch and providing a sort of heathered look.

My only qualm is that my double-pointed needles are just a tad too short and stitches keep dropping here and there. Also, it’s hard to see my progress when it’s on the needles – it looks like some sort of funky round hat-like contraption.

Check in next week for the finished product and news on my next knitting adventure!

How come you didn’t switch to circular needles?

I’m a bit paranoid when I’m using DPNs, so I put tip protectors on the ends I’m not using.
