Feeling the Alpaca LOVE

I am SUCH a proud knitter right now!  The Bernat Alpaca Leaf Pullover is BEAUTIFUL!

Pattern: Leaf Pullover
Bernat Pattern Book #530165 All Alpaca
Yarn: Bernat Alpaca in 93203 Aqua

I think this will be my favorite sweater for many years.  LOVE it!!

Bernat Alpaca Leaf Pullover, from Bernat’s “All Alpaca” pattern book

In fact, I think I’ll just leave it on for a few months right now.  It is SO comfy and warm and soft and HEAVENLY!

In my last post, I showed how I split the knitting into different sections to work on the body and the two sleeves.  After that it was smooth sailing.  Lots of knit stitches, with the occasional shaping row.  Simple and quick.

Here’s how my pullover looked when the body was almost finished:

I tried it on at that point, and decided to go ahead and do the ribbing at the bottom.  The knitted section was shorter than the pattern called for, but I’m a short girl, so I figured it would look better like this.   Same thing with the sleeves.  I didn’t want long sleeves.  I prefer 3/4 or half sleeves, so I opted for the half sleeves.  To make it work, I switched to needles 3 sizes smaller and did the ribbing.  Worked great!

Now, I have a lovely leaf sweater in my wardrobe.  I don’t think I will ever take it off.  I’m so glad I chose to make this beautiful alpaca pullover!

I think this is the most beautiful work I have seen. This is my first time at replying and the perfect fit makes me want to knit this also. Where can I get the pattern? Send it to me if you can or let me know how to get it. It is just beautiful.

        hi Denise!

This particular Bernat pattern comes from a book you can purchase at your local craft store. You can also buy the pattern book online. The book has several nice patterns for the Alpaca yarn. It’s called “All Alpaca”, and you can see photos of the projects on this page: http://www.bernat.com/patternbook.php?PBS=530165

Great job was it top down all in circular needles. Raglan type of blouse?

  3. Eva says:

Would this make a good first sweater pattern? I’ve done lace shawls, various afghans and a gazillion dish cloths ;-) and I would like to try a sweater for myself and I love this one.

    • Shandeh says:

You know, I think it would be a PERFECT first sweater! It’s top down, so there is no seaming at all. (Just a few stitches under the arms, so they don’t count – Ha!) And the yarn is bulky, so it goes quickly. Let us know when you cast on!

I love how this turned out. How many skeins of yarn does the pattern call for?

    • Shandeh says:

      Thank you!
Here are the amounts of Bernat Alpaca yarn skeins you will need for each size: (XS/S-6, M-7, L-8, XL-8, 2/3XL-9, 4/5XL-10). I used a 8 skeins, because I’m made my sweater shorter, and the sleeves were shorter as well.

  5. Shirley says:

Beautiful, I really love it. But you will have to leave that awesome craft room and show it off now!!

    • Shandeh says:

Definitely! I plan on wearing my sweater to teach piano lessons, and to play music at church. And it will be perfect to wear on a date with my hubby! :)

  6. Heather says:

Oh! That is beautiful. You should definitely be proud!

  7. Antonia says:

Your sweater is gorgeous and in my favorite color, too. I’ve been wanting to try a sweater and think this is one I would truly like. Will let you know when I get the book and start casting on.

    • shandeh says:

      Go Antonia!
I’m looking forward to seeing your pullover. Maybe we can get together for a “twin pullover” photo. :)

Sandy, its beautiful! The colour looks great on you and I just love the leaf motif.

    • shandeh says:

Thank you Dina! I’m in love with the leaves too. Autumn is my favorite season. I used to wear autumn shades a lot when I was a redhead. But now that I’m a blonde, I have to learn what other colors look good on me. I’m so happy I can still wear aqua and teal! They are two of my favorite colors. :)

  9. knittinjen says:

Whoa sista! This is awesome! So if I give you my measurements when will you make one for me? :-)

    Great job!

  10. Kris says:

OMG!!! That is stunning!! I would have it on forever too!! Just beautiful. I have been thinking about taking the plunge, I am nervous about it, but after seeing how gorgeous your sweater is…I think I’ll do it! Is the pattern available on the website? And any tips for first time sweater knitter?

  11. kayro says:

That is such a beautiful sweater, I know you are proud. I’m still fixin to bust a button over my KAL afghan…trying to get a picture done so I can send it in, I can’t wait to see all the color combinations.
    Congrats on your sweater !!!

I was only able to find the pattern book online and it cost more to ship than the cost of the book.Is there anyway to just purchase the leaf pullover pattern so it can be downloaded.

    Thanks

    • bernatyarns says:

      Hi Crystal -
Currently, the pattern is only available in the book. The book can also be purchased at your local Mary Maxim, Jo-Ann Fabrics, or Herrschners store. Good luck finding it. We may be making more individual patterns available on the web soon, but not quite yet.

  13. Crystal V. says:

Thank you I will keep trying to locate the pattern book.
