Almost Halfway Done!

Woo Hoo! I’m making progress on my nice, green cape. About 20 inches has been knit on the back section, so it’s coming along nicely.

In the midst of my wonderful progress, I have injured one of my toes. UGH! I was having fun on the internet, talking to some friends, looking at knitting patterns and yarn, when I realized I needed to get ready to teach piano lessons. So, I jumped up from the computer, to run down the hall and get dressed. BANG! Ran right into the TV cabinet in the living room. OUCH!

So, now, I’m stuck in bed, with my foot elevated. Bummer. At least I can still knit! Yes! Maybe I’ll get the back of the cape completely finished today.

Here’s the latest photo I’ve taken of the cape. It kinda looks like an apron in this photo. So, if you want to make an apron, just use the Bernat Side Button Hooded Cape pattern. Ha!

So far, I’ve used more than two skeins of Bernat Softee Chunky. It’s an easy yarn to use, especially if you pull the yarn from the center of the skein. Some people say that if you do that, you’ll end up with a lot of “yarn vomit” and the yarn will become a tangled mess. NOT SO! You just have to take the time to do it right, and you’ll have no problems at all.

I made a little video of how I always find the center of the skein. It works every time!

About shandeh

I started knitting in 2003, and it is now a major part of my life. In 2010, I learned how to crochet better as well, in the Bernat Mystery Blanket CAL. Now, I am confident with both crafts!

I’m embarrassed to admit I never knew how to do that before! Thanks so much for the video, now my yarn balls will stop rolling around everywhere.

So glad I could help! I can’t stand it when I have a yarn ball rolling all over the place. Using the yarn from the center of the ball makes life MUCH easier! ;)

Doggone, it worked. I always wondered how you do that. The only problem is I brought out too much of a ball of yarn, so guess I need to perfect this technique. Thanks!

  3. Shandeh says:

Yeah, that happens sometimes. But, if you keep practicing, you’ll start to feel when too much is coming out. If I can tell that is happening, I will switch to the other side, and pull it out that end. Good luck!

Thanks for making the video! Someone was just asking me the other day how to find it. Now, I have somewhere to refer them.

    Great blog!

Ha-ha! I found this video literally five minutes after struggling to find the end in the centre of a ball of yarn! (I found it just the way your demonstrated btw!)

    • Shandeh says:

Cool! I use that technique for ALL my skeins of yarn now. Occasionally, I’ll come across a “rogue” skein that refuses to cooperate, but not that often.

    Thank you soooo much you:P!

  7. Lee says:

Great technique! And I didn’t know about switching to the other side when too much is coming out! I’ll to that from now on. This really is so much better than using the outside of the ball.

    Dear Shandeh!

Thank you for the video ( it was very useful)now my cat will leave my skein of yarn alone! Thanks for suggesting the cape has a project to knit..you make it look so easy and interesting to knit! It will make a great gift for Xmas!

    • Shandeh says:

I’m so glad the video helped! Now, you can make a separate little ball of yarn for your cat to play with. ;)

I’m LOVING the cape! It’s been a quick, very easy knit.
