In a world of text messaging where LOL and TMI have become part of common speech, allow me to introduce to you my favourite acronym: KAL. Knit-along! Unfamiliar? A knit-along is simply a group of knitters all working on the same project at the same time. Have you ever run into a problem with your knitting and though; “If only someone else was knitting this and knew how to help me!”? The two-heads-are-better-than-one phenomenon is part of what makes the knit-along so special. Join our knit-along and you’ll find yourself with constant support and inspiration!
We at Bernat have put together a fantastic new project to inspire you to knit-along with us. Our first knit-along project is a sampler afghan knit in three colours of Bernat® Satin. A sampler afghan is a great way to try out new stitch patterns and with one block worked at a time, completely portable! So what does this great new blanket look like?

Surprise! This knit-along is a ‘mystery’. Every two weeks we will post a new “clue” (part of the pattern) . As you work each clue, I’ll be right there with you providing helpful with tips and tutorials. These clues are only available on the Bernat® Blog, so make sure you stay tuned to get all clues to complete your mystery afghan!
Here’s What you’ll need to create our Bernat Knit-along Mystery Afghan :
Bernat® Satin (100 g/3.5 oz; 149 m163 yds)
Contrast A – We used ‘Silk’ (04007) 4 balls
Contrast B – We used ‘Camel’ (04010l) 3 balls
Contrast C – We used ‘Banana’ (04615 ) 3 balls
Size 5 mm (U.S. 8 ) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Finished afghan measures approx. 50 in. [127 cm] 43 in. [109 cm]
Submit a photo of your finished afghan and you will have a chance to win enough yarn for the Bernat® afghan of your choice! Stay tuned for details.
Ready to knit-along? Make sure to let us know you’re joining the fun by posting a comment below. Check back October 23rd for your first clue!
Happy Knitting!

Well, I will definitely join this knit-a-long! I’m looking forward to it!
I have never done a knit a long, but have had good intentions, ha ha.
I got the list of yarn and I will be looking forwarded to the start of this. I made a sampler baby blanket years ago and I was really pleased with it.
It will be interesting to change it up on the blocks instead of one constant pattern. : )
Looking forward to knit along. Picked different colors & ordered my yarn. Great to have a goal. I love samplers. Never boring.
I’m just getting back to knitting after 30 years! I hope I can keep up–and remember how to knit!
I am not one to try things on blogs but since I love to knit I will give it a try. Can’t wait to start.
Can’t wait. Going to buy the yarn today.
I definitely want to join in the knit-along. I’m going to order my yarn so I’ll be ready!!
What a great idea. I am in several knitting groups and some of my friends and I can’t wait to get started. It is going to be so much fun waiting for our clues. Thank you for this wonderful project. I’m going to get my yarn today!
Cannot wait to get started.
My first time on a knit-along. Sounds like fun!
my first too, i’m really looking forward to this
Count me in!
My first knit-a-long!
I’m very interested. Not sure I’ll be able to keep up, but I would sure like to try! How exciting!
Hi 2thfairy -
Don’t worry about keeping up. There’s no time limit!
Looking forward to it! Going to order my yarn now!
Pat
This is my first time too!!! My loving daughter sent this to me, you might know her ?????
First time, but I’ll try anything once. Is it ok if we change the colors though? I would like to make it match my couch.
Hi Ashley – Of course you can change the colours! The world is your oyster!
I have a question about using colors. I have never made a throw before, so am in entirely new territory. Can you combine say Silk, Banana, and the ombre Faded Glory? OR would it be better to stick with three solid shades? Never having done anything like this I just can’t picture it in my head…
Thanks.
Hi JanV;
You can certainly use an ombre, though certain stitch patterns can get lost or appear too busy in ombre yarns. I would reserve the ombre for the simpler stitch patterns which will be the first couple of clues in our KAL. Good luck!
Julia.
Any plans for a KAL that is NOT an afghan.
I know modular things are simpler and, obviously, joining up a bunch of motifs to make a blanket is easy peasy. But seriously, my family neither needs nor wants ANOTHER throw.
They’re not easy to gift, either. Especially a mysery KAL where color planning, and textures are not possible to work out ahead of time.
Hoping for maybe toys or housewares.
Just my 2 cents. I like the idea of a mystery KAL.
Hi Phishstyx -
We’ve got plans for lots of Knit-Alongs in next year. Crochet-Alongs as well! We’d love to hear more about what you’re interested in as we continue with these.
-Bernatyarns
Yes, I like the idea of a mystery KAL, count me in.
IRONY!
I just heard from my long-lost former best friend (you know, after a close friend becomes part of a couple, s/he has to invest more time/effort in the “couple” than in socializing…). Anyway, his brainstorm for DW’s Xmas gift is a customized sleeve for her notebook. So, he asked me if I could give him some guidance.
Well, it’s easy peasy for even a crafting virgin to make one from a T or polo shirt. He was intrigued, for his own notebook, but it didn’t seem right for his stylish lady. So, I soldiered on until his interest was piqued with a picture of a felted sleeve. I volunteered to make the body of the sleeve and show him how to needle felt DW’s monogram (in her fave koenigsblau and antique gold).
Completely unrelated: I took a squint at the first block of the KAL and really liked the geometric texture. Here’s the irony: I’m using Clue #1 for more texture on the sleeve!
I haven’t seen a lot of success with fulling textured knits,–just a couple purses with 1 or 2 big cables–so I’ll only partially full to tighten the fabric, stitch it up so pal can embellish with the monogram, then line with moire or something to stabilize the shape. I’m really psyched!
Thanks Bernatians!
I agree, throws are great, but too many and they end up in a cupboard or drawer unless made for other people and not everyone either likes or wants one. I too would prefer household items or toys but never socks! What is it about homemade socks, they seem to be very popular, guess I’ve never had feet cold enough!
Oh Please! You can never have enough throws! Cant wait for the Crochet Along! Why are you making me wait? How about Both at the same time?
We have tons of throws in our house too but I like to try new things and I often donate to charity after they are completed. It keeps my hands busy and then hopefully puts a smile on someone’s face as well.
Count me in! Deannie
I will join in on the mystery. My husband has been after me to make him an afghan so this will be perfect. I will have to change the colors.
I would love to be part of this knit a long!!!
I absolutely will be joining!!!! i need something to do besides my Yule gift knitting!!!!
yes i would love to join jackie
Hey, this sounds like fun. EVen though I have an enormous stash, I love an excuse to buy more yarn, which of course I will just **have** to do for this KAL.
I especially enjoy mystery KALs, especially if they provide an opportunity to expand my knitting skills. It is also just a lot of fun …AND… i actually finish the project (usually).
Hey, this is a great idea! Can’t wait to follow along! Is it okay if I use different colors?
What color would you add to an ebony and sultana combo?
How about one of the variegated ones, like “Tapestry” for instance?
For a nice jewel toned afghan I would go with Bordeaux. When I’m looking for color combos I go to the Bernat’s free patterns and pattern books and sort by yarn type and see what color combos they used for various projects. When I was looking for my colors today I found sultana in the fall line-up pattern book paired with seashell, stardust and maitai. It is nice to see the colors put together.
This sounds like fun, I’m in for it. With a family as large as mine we need all the throws we can make.
Looking forward to joining in. Another chance to hit the yarn store!
Sounds interesting… I have a couple other projects in the works for Xmas, but I’ll try to do this too– sounds like fun!!
I like the idea of a kal here. Good way to start things and who doesnt like a little mystery! Im in!
I have some satin in my stash that needs a project to go along with it! Here I come!
Sounds like fun! I’ve done an embroidery sew-along, but this is really different. What a good excuse to stop everything and knit! Chrys
This will be my first Knit-along. Hope I can do it. I usually crochet.
Sounds as a fun thing to do. We we get finished in time to make it a gift for xmas?
The mystery Knit-Along won’t be finished in time for Xmas, but it should be done in time to keep your toes warm before winter ends.
Woo Hoo! A Bernat KAL! Love it. *HUG*
I can’t believe my luck — I have just discovered KALs while checking Yarn stores on the Net — count me in — my daughter has been patiently waiting for a nice throw to cuddle up with –she’s 10. I will Have to hurry and finish her sister’s — thanks for giving me the inspiration.
I would love to join in on the fun.
i will surely join in and work on my other things that i have to do …
yes I will join in on the knit-along
Off to choose colours right now!
I’m a beginner knitter, but an advanced intermediate crocheter. Will this pattern be workable for me? Or should I wait for something simpler?
The pattern will progress in difficulty from beginning to end. That means the earliest squares will be the simplest, but even the hardest ones can be learned by a patient advanced beginner.
If you’re not sure, I’d recommend starting with us, and if you get to square you can’t figure out (or don’t want to) all of the members of the KAL can work with you on it or you can make extras of a square you’re more comfortable with!
Please count me in for this. Thanks, Cynthia
Sounds like fun – I think I will see how it works – thanks
I’m excited to do a knitalong. I did a video sock knitalong a few years back and I can still remember the things I learned. It is much easier to learn new stitches when doing a knitalong with other people involved. Any discussions help to retain the info taught.
I’ve never done this before & it sounds like fun. I’m in!
Ok, I’ll put this on my list of TTD (things to do) and hope I can keep up with the group–sounds like fun anyway.
minnie
WOW, knitting along with others what a great idea, yes for sure count me in as well……can’t wait….D
Hello – this is my first Knitalong and i will jump in and get happy…lol…
Thanks, Mary
Count me in….this sounds like fun!!
This sounds like the way for me to knit an afghan! I’ve always been overwhelmed by the thought, but knitting, and learning together sounds wonderful. Count me in.
Sounds like fun! Count me in!
I’m a beginner, can’t read a pattern to save my life. I only know how to knit and purl so better spoon-feed me the instructions! Should I join?
Hi Derbygirl -
The pattern will progress in difficulty from beginning to end. This means the early squares will be the easiest ones, and we’ll be building on what we learned for successive squares.
We’ll also have one of the designers here to walk you through the process each step of the way.
I’d recommend you start out, and if you encounter a square you can’t figure out, all of the members of the KAL can work with you on it. If you still feel overwhelmed, we can help you figure out how to work more of some of the earlier squares and still end up with a finished afghan.
Have Fun!
I am planning to join along. Never did this before, so look forward to it.
I would love to join in! Can’t wait for the first clue!
Sounds like a “hoot”. I just need to finish up one project and I am ready. This will push me to not procrastinate,
Never done a knit-a-long, but it sounds like fun. Count me in
Count me in as well. I can hardly wait. Always looking for a new pattern to knit
I love knit-a-longs and I am excited to join this one.
Looking forward to it.
Count me in!
Scarves are usually my limit, but my daughter says I should be more of a risk-taker so I’ll dive into Afghan making…will need lots of help!!
sounds good to me -
What size needles do we need for this, and can a beginner hadle it? Inquireing minds need to know
I too was wondering about the needle size is it a mystery? Can’t wait never-done a KAL off to the yarn store today.
You’ll need size 5 mm (U.S. 8 ) knitting needles to make the Mystery Afghan. Good luck!
i never get gauge with the size needles listed. is it possible to give us the guage, not just a suggested needle size? thanks
Hi,
The top of the blog says the kind of yarn, number of skeins needed of each color (choice of colors is yours). It also says you need US #8 needles. It also has a diagram of how the squares we make will be laid out. It doesn’t mean all the same color will be the same pattern…we will have to wait and see what the mystery brings:)
Keep asking…no question is too stupid…I have taught a number of people to knit and crochet and until you get use to it, you can have lots of questions:)
Harriet
Hi Harriet;
The gauge for the project is the suggested gauge for Bernat Satin: 18sts by 24rows on a US 8 or 5mm needle. I agree, the needle size is not as important as getting the right number of stitches for your gauge! Good luck;
Julia.
I’ll try!
This sounds like fun, I’m off to buy some yarn today.
Hope it will be easy for a beginner, I’m a crocheter, and needlepointer, but not afraid to try anything in the vrafty area.
Can’t wait to get started. Sandy
Sounds like fun! Count me in! Quick question, can I use a different yarn? I prefer to work in wool blends or cotton. Any suggestions for an alternative yarn that will still be the right weight?
You can use any yarn you want. Bernat has done a great job with this website. Bernat satin is a 4-medium weight yarn. If you click on OUR YARNS at the top of this page, you can sellect different yarns by weight on the left hand side of your screen. I would be careful with picking something like Bernat denim because the pattern in the yarn may not show the detail of your work. I do not know what patterns we are making in this sampler afgan but they did pick really bland colors. If you choose a thicker yarn like Bernat Alpaca (wool blend 5 bulky weight) then use a larger needle size (6 instead of 5) suggested on the package. Your afgan will be bigger than the finished size but really unique. I’ve worked with the cotton ‘n corn and that turned out to be a really nice sweater project. Cotton as you may know has a tendency to stretch and not recover. Wool blends recover nicely and hold their shape better than cotton. I hope you have fun with this mystery aghan.
Sounds like a lot of fun. Never done a mystery knit-a-long before. Will give it a try.
Perfect! I’ve been wanting to do a knit-along, but so far haven’t found the right project. I love surprises.
Sounds like fun to me. . .
Count me in. Would love to crochet an afghan but don’t know how. Perhaps a pattern suitable for beginners and in depth description of procedure. Video would be helpful
I printed up list of yarn and am looking forward to this Knit A Long. I have had good intentions to join one before, but never had. I think it will be fun to change up the blocks, instead of a constant pattern on a normal afghan pattern.
I am joining the KAL Not sure how this will go.
Great idea! I will not join in the afghan this time as I already have quite a few both knit and crochet. Will look forward to the next project. Meanwhile I have a lot of projects I am finishing up. By the way, thank you to Sandy (aka Shandeh) for the great hooded cape idea… I went and found it and will definitely make it maybe for next Spring. I love to wear ponchos styles.
di
Yay! Thanks for joining me in making the cape!
– Shandeh
It’s an easy knit, and goes really fast with the chunky yarn. And the yarn is not heavy, so the cape doesn’t weigh you down. I’m looking forward to hearing how your cape is going for you.
Where do you find the pattern for the cape? Can you adjust the pattern for a small girl – size 4?
Janet, you can find the cape pattern by doing a search for “cape” on the Bernat pattern page. http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php
Unfortunately, this particular pattern is just sized for adults. There are some Bernat poncho patterns for kids though!
Cant wait yo get started- sounds like fun!!
Is this project beginner friendly? I am fairly new to knitting.
We’re all here to make sure that even beginners can take on this pattern. To start, you’ll need to know how to knit and purl, but we’ll be adding on for each square, practicing and learning new techniques.
One of the designers, Julia, will be here along with all the other knitters to work through each square.
This sounds like fun. I am disabled and housebound a lot during the winter so I will give this a try.
I Love a KAL!! I have my yarn and am ready to go.
Looking forward to this…may even make it an assignment for my class….
For those of you who are worried about yet another ‘throw’….keep in mind nursing homes especially those that have Alzheimer’s patients…they always welcome hand made items including throws and blankets
I’ve never done any type of knit along or any other type of stitch along. It sounds like fun.
Ooh!! Haven’t done any knitting since last year due to carpel tunnel…but the weather has gotten cooler and the itch to knit has gotten me. I was looking for a project and here it is!! I’m a basic knitter who’s never done a KAL, but what a way to start!!!
What a great idea! I hope to learn lots of new stitch patterns.
This sounds like a great idea…..count me in.
I have never done one of these but I am excited to start. How wonderful that I don’t even have to leave home to participate. I am getting more confident in my knitting so this will be another added bonus. Thanks so much.
This looks like it will be a lot of fun. I plan on getting the yarn this weekend…
Knit ON
I am teaching myself to knit. This sounds like fun, but will I be able to do this?
Hope to see a crochet along soon.
Sure. I love knitting mysteries! THey’re fun!
Some questions -
1 – how many weeks does this project last? I know I will be out of town some weeks. Will I still be able to get the earlier weeks’ information or will I be out of luck?
2 – there are 3 color blocks of eight each. Does that mean we will get a new design every two weeks and make eight blocks of that design? Or will we be getting more than 3 designs and the picture is only for color placement?
thanks for doing this
how do you know there are 3 color blocks of 8 each -did I miss something? I am new at this. thanks
natalie – if you look at the very top of this blog page there is an explanation of the project with more details on the blocks, size, needles, etc… good luck with the KAL!
Hi Char – That’s the “mystery” part! You get the instructions a bit at a time.
Part of the fun for me, is to look at the pieces during the process and trying to visualize what the completed project is supposed to look like.
If you’re not available to get the information a certain week, it will be here waiting for you. Every two weeks another piece of the puzzle will be released, but all previous clues will still be here to work off of.
Would love to try this KAL. Have some Satin to use up and if I need more, I’ll never complain about a trip to a yarn store.
well, I’ve never been part of a ‘blog’ nor a KAL but I’m game to try! I enjoy knitting and crocheting but I can’t seem to finish my projects… maybe this will get me back on track and help me to finish what I start!
I would also have questions on a project that I started just recently and am having trouble understanding the pattern? Any suggestions as to who or where I can get this help?
Thanks, Emilie
I’d be happy to help you … or you could join craftster.org – there is a great knitting section there and a place to post questions!
You can email me at rikihall AT gmail DOT com
Hi Emilie – there are some great resources on the web for general pattern support. I’m a big fan of Ravelry.com – their techniques board is useful for beginners to advanced alike.
I think this is a great idea, and am looking forward to being involved
I love to knit and crochet but I have never done a knitalong and I’m really looking forward to it.I’m always looking for a new pattern for afgans. Can’t wait to get started.
This is my first time joining a KAL, think it will be great fun. Went out and bought Bernat Satin yarn. Oh, my gosh! This yarn is so Soft and nice to touch. Should be easy to work with.
can’t wait to get started. HAPPY KNITTING!
Bernat Satin is WONDERFULLY soft, isn’t it? Sometimes, I just pet the yarn when I come across a skein in my craft room or at my local craft store. I think that a Bernat Satin blanket would feel heavenly!
I’m looking forward to it! Another reason to go to the yarn shop! This will be my first KAL.
Love to “knit-along”!
I will be interested in following the different patterns to complete the afghan.
Thanks
Sounds like fun but what is the knitting level required to make this afghan??
I’ve crocheted many, many afghans but only knit my first one this past summer.
Jonny
The difficulty level for the afghan varies from Easy to Intermediate. We’ll be progressing from the easiest to the most difficult squares, and ideally everyone should be able to follow along and learn as they go. If the ‘intermediate’ squares are too much, we’ll offer suggestions for completing the afghan making only the squares you’re comfortable making (but more of them). If you’re not sure if you should join, this should be a great opportunity to learn stitches and techniques (such as cables and lace) that you may not be familiar with.
I think I will enjoy this. Now that Summer is finally over, I can begin my favorite relaxing pasttime – knitting! Just one question, in the event I cannot locate “Silk”, is there a yarn I can use to substitute?
Hi Betty -
The recommended yarn (Bernat Satin) is a medium weight (4) yarn.
The recommended gauge for Bernat Satin is 18 sts – 24 rows = 4″ (10 cm) with 5.00 mm, US – 8 knitting needles
Any yarn of similar weight or gauge should be fine. Keep in mind your personal needs from an afghan – if it needs to be machine washable, you’ll want to avoid natural fibers that can felt.
To see what other bernat yarns would work, here’s a list of all ‘medium’ yarns currently available: http://www.bernat.com/search.php?yswt=4&advys=y
Hope you can find the perfect yarn!
I love a good mystery. Bought my yarn today since it was on sale at Michaels. This will be my first.
I will definately give this a try….I’ve never done a knitalong before, but I am filled with good intentions.
I think I’ll take a stab at this. I’ve never done a knit-along before, but it may be the perfect encouragement.
I have never knit an afgan before or done a knit sampler. This sounds like great fun! Can’t wait!
I am a knitter and will love the challange. Count me in.
I am very new to knitting and this will be a great project to learn with! Count me in!
I really want to take part in this KAL! I don’t have any satin in my stash and my DH has banned me from buying any more yarn until I “use up” what I’ve got… think I will be able to sneak some in under the radar? by the way how much does this run per ball? I am just a beginner, so I am looking forward to learning new stitches! Wish me luck everyone!
Hi Jan -
You should be able to use other, similar yarns if you don’t have access to Bernat Satin.
Does DH mean dear husband? I had one of those. I also worked in a yarn shop and had almost as much yarn in my cupboard as in the store, in fact Ted said I would need to live to 425 in order to use up all the yarn. When the shop closed everything closed and who could pass up a 75% off sale. I did’t think I could push my DH any further so I stashed my bags in my car trunk. All was well until I had a flat tire and I was found out. Bless his heart he just laughed and gave me a kiss.
Yes DH is Dear Hubby, or Dang Hubby depending on my mood (or his)
But the good thing is HE doesn’t know that! so if he is around I can ‘talk about him without his knowing it! Oh I’m a baaad liddle girl! Now where’s dat puddy tat? Oh I’ve got to stop watching the cartoons with the grand kids! (but that is about the only time I can keep up with them!)
I am torn between ordering my yarn from MMaxim, or buying at my LYS using a coupon. I get it quicker at the LYS, but w/o shipping it is a bit more per skein, But I am supporting a local business…
If I go through MMaxim, it is quite a bit cheaper per skein, but then you have to figure in the cost of the shipping … and that brings them about equal, plus I don’t know when I would get the yarn, and DH would be sure to want to know what was in the package… Looks like the LYS wins – I’m going to get the yarn today!
Hey! No fair! Tell your husband that he can’t buy any more things he wants either! (tee-hee)
OH by the way, I have never knit a throw before, so this will be a first! Since we don’t know the pattern I was wondering if the following colors would work: Silk, Banana, and Crimson? I was also wondering if a ombre like Faded Glory would work in place of the Crimson? (Did I use the right term for the type of yarn?)
Thanks for all your help,
JanV (NStitches)
Hi JanV;
You can use any colours you like! My only concern is that certain stitch patterns can get lost or look too busy in an ombre yarn. I would reserve the ombre for simpler stitch patterns (the first clues will be the simplest patterns). Good luck!
Julia.
Some Quick questions…
1. About how large will each block be?
I see the diagram that has 4 blocks wide by 6 blocks high, with 8 blocks of each color – and i notice that the approximate finished size is 50 in by 43 in – but I don’t know which measurement is which… is 50 the length or the width? If I knew this I could kind of figure out the block size, but as it is I’m stumped.
2. To enter the contest do we have to have our blocks in the designated pattern?
Say I want to make my afghan a bit longer (or wider) by adding a row of blocks. That would change the pattern of the afghan, so I might want to organize the blocks in a completely different way. Would I still be eligible for the contest?
3. Are we limited to just three colors?
I am thinking about adding my extra blocks in as a fourth color – would that be OK?
Thanks for your help.
JanV (NStitches)
Oh, this is exciting. Can’t wait to get started. Will get my yarn this week. Thank you.
This sounds like great fun. Love the idea that it’s portable, and that I’ll learn some new stitches (since I only know two right now!) Heading out to get my yarn now…..
I’ll be away the month of November. Will I be able to catch up when I return on November 28th? I’m a fast knitter with 70 years experience knitting. This sounds like fun.
Hi Glowworm
No worries about missing any of the clues – they will all still be here when you return. You can pick up right where you left off and proceed at your own pace.
I cant wait to start I went and got my yarn today !!!
I would like to join the knit along, but I haven’t been doing much knitting lately. Will the pattern be difficult? I used to knit, but mostly I crochet now so I am not sure I will be able to keep up. However, I am going to try and if it gets too hard I will just use the yarn to make something else.
Hi Faye -
the pattern will progress in difficulty from beginning to end, but we’ll be working through the new techniques and stitches as we introduce them, so it should be easy to learn along as each clue is released.
If you come across a clue you can’t figure out, the members of the Knit Along can work with you on it or you can make extras of a square you’re more comfortable with!
Kal sounds great! I love to have a winter project.
Count me in. It gets cold in the Frozen North! For those who don’t need another throw, hundreds of squares were knitted and assembled after Katrina and sent to people who had lost everything. With all the natural disasters we’re having, someone somewhere will bless you for a bit of warmth. Check out charity knitting on Google.
I’d love to join but I have worsted yarn that is not Bernat Satin (Sorry). Money is tight too for alot of us. OK to join and submit my finished project picture?
Yep! No purchase is necessary to enter the contest. We’ll be including all the details in a future post.
Sounds like fun! I would like to join in the Mystery Afghan Knit-Along. I’m a “beginner knitter” — never done anything like this before. Here’s hoping!!
Hi I’ve never done a kal,but want to try it, so count me in, have yarn, & needles, will knit.
thanks Dory
I look forward to giving this a try. Love a mystery!
This sounds like fun. I am a beginning knitter but would like to learn some new skills. Working on a small square does not seem as intimidating as tackling a entire throw. Can’t wait to get started!!
Count me in!!
Looking forward to join this venture. At 75 I’m always looking for a challenge.
A knit-along sounds like fun. It’s been a great while since I had knitting needles in my hands. I usually crochet or sew. I’m looking foward to this project. Thanks for the opportunity to participate.
Have never done an afghan or blanket, but would like to join the Kal. It’s about time I made something for myself. If I don’t finish-many ufo’s! I will donate the squares to charity.
When and where do we start?
Hi Marjorie;
The first clue will be posted Friday, Oct.23rd. Where to start is up to you!
Julia
The Knit-along sounds like so much fun! I have been a knitter for many years and just love it. Will look forward to taking part in this project.
I would love to join this knit a long…I might even try it in xmas colors….I am excited!!
This will be great fun. I’ll be anxious to get started.
Count me in. It sounds like fun. I don’t know when I’ll get it done as I’m behind on 3 baby blankets that need doing. I crochet too, so look forward to future crochet projects.
Lynn
Sounds intriguing. I’ll be trying to keep up, currently working lots of OT (overtime)…lol …I’m always up for a good mystery!
I’ve been knitting socks for many years. Looking forward to learn something else. I’ll be ready.
Were is my knitting needles? Lets get started.
Better get my yarn bought first? My husband will
just have to live with me getting more yarn.
What size needles do we need?
I’m enjoying doing a new sampler afghan at a
near by church. It gets you out of your box
and challenges you to learn and knit something
new and different. Plus this will be a mystery.
Knitting along together,
Luanne
You’ll need size 5 mm (U.S. 8 ) knitting needles to make the Mystery Afghan.
Sounds like an adventure! Looking forward to it.
I’m considering joining in, but Oct. 23 is a long time to wait for the first clue, LOL! I’ll be using yarns from my large stash, some of which are probably Bernat yarns.
Sounds fun, I’m a new knitter but I’m going to try hopefully I’ll understand the stitches
Sign me up, it sounds like fun! I’m trying to choose my colors now.
Super! I can’t wait. Count me in too. Never done this before I hope I can do it.
Looking forward to this new project. Sounds like it will be fun and keep us motivated at the same time.
Sounds like great fun. I like the idea that it’s smaller sections that you can take with you. I can’t wait to get started!!!
My first mystery KAL, I am looking forward to it.
I’ll give it a try.
I think I will join in. Sounds fun.
What a great idea. This will be my first afghan – I can’t wait! A mystery afghan… how long can I keep it a mystery from my husband…
Thanks for the invite. Looking forward to the knit-along. I think I might actually keep this one for me!
Oh my hands are so full of “to do’s”, I love to make the Bernat dishcloths to give to friends during my down time so am so looking forward to this “event”!!!! (Just hope I did whatever here so I can be part of the “team”, computer illiterate:)”
Hi Lisa -
Yep, all we want if for folks to let us know they’re joining in. Have fun!
This sounds like fun!! Count me in!!
Sounds like a great way to spend some cold/dark Canadian nights, learn some new stitches and have some fun ~ count me in too!
I am anxiously anticipating my first KAL……
***As you get older, the ‘firsts’ in your life get further and further apart…..
sounds great i love a mystery. can’t wait to start.
Sounds like fun. Need to get my yarn.
I’m a “basic” knitter and this sounds fun! A suggestion for all those who have too many throws – look for a Linus Project to donate them to – I have the fun of knitting/crochet/weaving smaller projects but don’t have to live with them, and they are so welcomed by the recipients.
yes, I will participate to this knit-along! My englis is not so good but I will work very hard! I love knitting and I have many projetcs already beginning (soxes and pull for my husband)!
Sounds fun – looking forward to taking part!
Thinking about trying this, I normally crochet, but my daughter is getting married on the 24th, so I will start late,..
I enjoy to join this kal
I’m a french crazy knitter
KAL are fun and exciting to look forward getting on your email. Please count me in also.. Thanks Laura
Would love to try a KAL
I’m in!
This sounds like fun and a great way to learn new stitches. I can’t wait to get started.
Patty
Count me in!! Sounds like fun – I’m involved in a SAL (stitch a long) and I love it!!
Ready to go!
I have never done a knit a long online, and I am looking forward to this one! Ordering my yarn today. Thanks
This will be my first KAL too. I hope I can keep up, but I love the portability of blocks. Count me in! Now, I just have to decide on colors and get my yarn. The 3 neutrals are awfully pretty– I never use recommended colors, but this time, I might just have to!
Never done one of these before. Sounds like fun! Wish it was October 23 tomorrow!
Sounds like fun. I love the yarn. I’m going to see if I can get my daughter interested in knitting this.
i live in california and my sister (who tought me how to knitt and crochet) lives in oregen. we are going to join this knit. this is a great way for us to work together on a project. i love this idea. thanks Bernat for keeping us together.
sounds like fun. if it turns out nice may give to my daughter for her wedding.will try to keep up, i am not the fastest.
COUNT ME IN!! THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME THAT I HAVE DONE THIS.
This sounds like fun-I’ve never done a kal, but have seen various projects lately for crochet and quilting, also knitting, so I think I will try this. I really like the look of sampler projects.
sounds like fun
Just ordered my yarn and will be excited to start.
This sounds like fun and I want to give it a try. I’m going to send this to my Thursday Night Knitting Group–it would be really fun for all of us to be working on it together!
Count me in on the fun!
Love to knit and crochet.Sounds like fun.
This sure sounds like fun. I’ve never done a KAL. My husband helped pick the colors and I’m going to order the yarn today.
Sounds good, count me in. I’ll be looking for yarn today. I’v never done a knit along before, ready to try.
I am not the best knitter in the world – But I like this idea and I’m going to give it a try!!!!!
This is my first KAL. The mystery idea seems like a lot of fun. I can’t wait to get started!
Please, count me in! Sounds like a lot of fun!
Count me in. I usually get bored with a project as big as an afghan – let’s see if the mystery part keeps me intrigued long enough to finish it!
Looking forward to working the afghan. Going to order my yarn now. Never have done this before. should be fun!
Pat
Looking forward to this KAL! It will be a LOT of fun to learn new stitches and (Who Knows?) new techniques. I think that instead of a throw I will use my squares as a “see and touch” library, that is, I will mount them on a binder, along with the instructions on how to make the stitch and the information about the yarn/needles/etc used. Congratulations on a very nice idea!
Marcia
Cool Idea! Now I think I’ll have to make an extra of each block! – Uh oh – that means I’ll need more yarn doesn’t it? But how much more? Are we doing only one of each block or multiples? Any guidance on how much ‘extra’ yarn I might need if I wanted to do this in a neutral color that would show off the stitches? Also If I want a bigger throw – but I want to use the same yarn… Sorry for so many questions in one post … I am really getting excited about this!
Hi Jan – If you’d like to make your throw twice as large, you’ll need approximately twice as much yarn. We are going to be doing each square more than once, so to double you’d make double the total number of squares, but i’m afraid that’s all I can release of the ‘mystery’.
In Reply to the Bernat post about how much yarn you’ll need if you want to double the size of your afghan…
If you only want to double the size in ONE direction – ie width OR length – they are right -you would need double the amount of yarn. HOWEVER If you want to truly double the size of the afghan – in both length AND width – you would need at least 4 times as much yarn.
Use pieces of paper to think it through you have one piece of paper, then you want to double the width AND length — so put a second piece of paper beside the first (twice as much yarn), now to double the length — put a third piece of paper below the original piece (three times as much yarn), but now you have an angle shape – not the rectangle you want, so you have to add a fourth piece pf paper below the added width (four [4] times as much yarn) to get the completed afghan at double the original length and width.
Make sense?
Thanks to a friend who talked me through this the first time I tried to double the size of a project!
I for one could use an afghan, I’ve never really had the patience before to do one but this could lend some excitement to the project.
I’m in … this will be my first experience with a KAL project, as well as a knitted throw project. I learned to knit & crochet years ago, and have made many crochet afghans. I knit “European” style and at times have to adjust or give up with instructions because of the way I learned to knit. I hope to learn and/or receive help from others on this project (also a “first” for me).
Mona -
Don’t get discouraged. IF you have trouble converting the pattern ask for help. That’s one reason I am joining in on the blog. Some of the earlier comments put these people at knitting for over 30 years. I’m sure someone will be able to help. I hope you are excited about this new project.
I wanna play! – love a good KAL!
Sounds like fun. Count me in.
I’m intrigued! I’m going to check out the price of the yarn first to see if I can afford it.
The yarn is ordered! Looking forward to it! I love knitting afghans in winter, when they cover your lap and keep you warm while you knit!
Never done a KAL before but this one really sounds like fun! Have a ton of crocheted throws but surely I can find someone in the family that needs a knitted one!
I haven’t done a KAL before, and I haven’t had the patience to make an afghan or throw that requires assembly. I hope this will help me on all these fronts. I’m going to use the suggested yarn, however I will likely change out the camel for something brighter.
I can’t wait to get started!
I’m in sounds like fun. Will keep me busy at night.
I want to join, too. Meet y’all back here Oct 23! Can’t wait. Wondering if I can used worsted weight yarn . I have a ton of it that I have to use up.
Hi Rosie -
You’re welcome to use worsted weight yarn, but keep in mind you’ll want to check your gauge. If it doesn’t match, you may end up with a larger or smaller end result. You may want to go down a needle size to 4.5mm (U.S. 7) as well.
I have crocheted a baby blanket using Bernat yarns, it came out so soft and cozy! I have never done a KAL before and am very excited- count me in! yaay!
Looking forward to this knit along. This is a first for me.
Knitting for years. Never have tried a knitalong. This will be fun.
looking forward to joining in on the knit along…………..will be ready to go….
I will joing the knit along – can’t resist a good mystery
Sounds like a winning winter project to get through the cold dreary days ahead! Can’t wait!
I am interested in joining in too! What level knitter is this for? Can I knit it in one color?
Hi Brendij;
I would say this pattern is intermediate. The more complicated designs will be accompanied with tutorials to help you along. As for colour – you can do anything you like. One colour would be great!
Julia.
I’ve only done kal dishcloths…. but I’m game. I really like working with varigated and then blending in contrast colors so I’ll see what I can find… I wonder if this will work with this pattern… of course that’s why it’s a mystery!
This should be a lot of fun. Anxious to get started.
I am so busy with holidays right now, but may I follow the design as it is reveiled and save it for later use
Or maybe catch up as it goes along
thank you
cindy
This sounds like fun!
I’vce done a KAL before. In fact, that’s where I learned to do cables! I plan on using Berella 4 as I have three containers full. Wondering about colors….. I have soft taupe, winter white, soft heather, teal, dark taupe, burgandy, and country blue (these are the large 14 oz balls, so I have plenty of any color. Suggestions? I’m thinking taupes, soft heather and winter white… soft shades
Can’t wait
Hi Karen;
If you want to use 3 colours like we did, I suggest placing the yarn in groups of 3 and see which combinations strike your fancy! You might want to consider where the blanket will be used too – should it match your couch? Your wallpaper? Sounds like you’ve got a lot of choice – good luck!
Julia.
Love to join
This should be interesting. Sign me up.
I will definetly join.
I am looking forward to this. Sounds like fun. Cant wait for the 23rd.
Don’t know why you couldn’t use worsted weight – it’ll come out bigger than using the Bernat Satin, but what with the cold weather soming up, that could only be a *good* thing. :>)
I have never done a knit a long and look forward to giving it a try on a mystery afghan.
Just starting to knit again after a 30+ year absence. Should be fun.
A few friends want to start a local knitting group… a mystery stitch sampler afgan was exactly how I was thinking about starting. It sounds like one block every two weeks, so very do-able while working on Christmas presents at the same time. I’m in!
This sounds like lots of fun. I do a lot of knitting/crocheting of afghans for charity and will love having a new pattern/design. I will gather up my yarn and needles and await the first insatllment.
Can’t wait!!
I’ll check back when your ready for the first installment. Always need to learn new stitch patterns.
would like to join
Sounds like fun! I love making afghans and now the weather is cooler I’m starting to think about warm projects.
This is a great way to get through the cold months. The Bernat yarn is sooo soft and the colors are gorgeous, although Joann’s didnt have alot of it. I also am very anxious to start.
i love making afghans. i usually crochet them though. i just recently learned how to knit so i’m excited to do this. if it turns out good enough i can use it as a christmas gift.
I would love to be in a knit along. Helps take my mind off doctors who dictate so badly. I am picking my colors, too!
Sound like fun and I REALLY need another project.
I’ve knited lots of different things, but never a sampler. I have always been afraid the blocks wouldn’t fit together. So, if you are going to help, I guess I’ll try.
Besides portable is good. It will be a change from granny squares
sounds like fun…count me in!
I am interested in joining but I wish I know part of the pattern. How do I know if I can knit this pattern.
Every beach started out as a little grain of sand! Just dive in, you can do it!!! By the way, I got my yarn–the colors are perfect–and two people in Michael’s got so excited when I told them about it, that they followed me to the registers with yarn for the project too!!
Hi Kathy;
I don’t want to give away too much of the surprise, but know that the pattern is basically intermediate level. Some squares or ‘clues’ will be more difficult than others, and we plan on providing tutorials to help with those techniques. As the blanket is worked in blocks, if one block proves too difficult, you can always substitute and easier one in it’s place. I’m sure you can do it! Good luck!
Julia.
I’ve never joined a kal or blog before- but I certainly have knitted and crocheted over the years- Usually don’t knit throws because I don’t like working on circular needles so this project seems perfect for me- already have a huge stash of Satin- it’s my favorite for baby afghans and sweaters.
Count me in too,
But I must warn everyone, this is the very first time I’ve done any blogging, and I’m a basic knitter.
So I’m likely to get very lost.
But I’ll give it a go, and have a load of fun along the way. lol
Hi Christine;
We’ll do our best to help you find your way!
Julia.
I´m in. Never done KAL before, but there is first time for everything. I plan to knit every piece twice, so I can have bedcover for my toughters bed (1mx2m).
I only have to find suitable replacment yarn, while I cannot find Bernat in Estonia (Europe).
Hi Umarik–
Check the response below for yarn substitution guidelines:
The recommended yarn (Bernat Satin) is a worsted weight yarn (also known as (4) – medium).
The recommended gauge for Bernat Satin is 18 sts – 24 rows = 4″ (10 cm) with 5.00 mm, US – 8 knitting needles
Any yarn of similar weight or gauge should be fine. Keep in mind your personal needs from an afghan – if it needs to be machine washable, you’ll want to avoid natural fibers like untreated wool that can felt.
Julia.
This sounds like fun. I have never done this type of project before but I will try to keep up.
Sounds like a fun project!
Looking forward to never done one before and with winter coming along will definately come in handy
HI
I’d love to join the knit along but Im not sure if rgarding the yarn… u see Im in Cape Town – SA and I cant seem to find any Bernat here… what would be the next best thing to use?
Looking forward to your reply!
Thanks!
T
Hi – I tried to buy the wool in Scotland and couldn’t find it so ordered it via the internet from Florida -fingers crossed it arrives before next week, as our postmen are going on strike then!!!
I’m delighted to report that my yarn arrived this morning – I’m really glad now that I ordered it and didn’t use a substitute as it’s really really soft and is going to make a fantastic afghan!!! Roll on tomorrow!!!
Hi -
The recommended yarn (Bernat Satin) is a medium weight (4) yarn.
The recommended gauge for Bernat Satin is 18 sts – 24 rows = 4″ (10 cm) with 5.00 mm, US – 8 knitting needles
Any yarn of similar weight or gauge should be fine. Keep in mind your personal needs from an afghan – if it needs to be machine washable, you’ll want to avoid natural fibers like untreated wool that can felt.
I can’t wait to start. This would be my first attempt at an afghan. I will go today and buy my yarn.
I am so excited. I have never participated in a knit along before. I ordered my yarn yesterday and I am eager to get started.
I am so looking forward to this. What a wonderful way to learn new stitches. A great winter project.
Let’s go! I’ll probably change up the colors.
For fun,,, thank you ladies for doing this.
Enjoy everyone, and blessings.
I am very excited about this KAL. I have never done one of these with knitting so I am curious to see the end project. I will buy my wool today.
Count me in – I’ll give it a try!!!
Sounds like a fun way to make the throw that my father-in-law has been hinting for. Count me in!!!
count me in it sounds like fun!
I would love to join your knit along. I have never been in one before. I hope I can do this because I am a beginning knitter but have tried to challenge myself,
Can’t wait! Bought my yarn last week, right after I saw this KAL posted! This will be my first KAL so I am looking forward to it. My husband was laughing at me trying to figure out what colors to buy. lol I ended up picking Lavendar, Cobalt and Luxury. Can’t wait to get started!
I mainly crochet but use to knit. I am interested in both however, so sign me up too. Looking forward to getting back into knitting. Ready to go.
K.
This will be my first knit-along….looking forward to starting it and having the support of other knitters if needed. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with the project…see you all on Oct.23rd!
I’m excited to try this… hopefully I can keep on track… I have the yarn and am ready to go.
Count me in!
I’m in. The knit and pearl stitch is about my limit. This newbie is ready to expand her horizons. With so many skilled knitters, I’m confident a beginner can work her way through and break free of beginner status.
Hi Holly;
We’ll help you take it to the next level!
Julia.
Yes I want to join. This sounds like a fun project. I love mysteries.
I want to join the knit-along.
I have never joined a knit along but I will try this one.
I’m ready to give it a whirl. Sounds like fun, once I figure out this blogging business
Hi Dianne;
Blogging isn’t a requirement of the KAL but feel free to start one! All you need to do it knit!
Julia.
Sounds like fun. I am always up for something different.
KAL’s are great…and mystery ones even better! Will you have hints on making sewing the sections together bearable? That is what usually keeps me from doing larger projects, especially sampler ones. But I love the checkerboard look of them. Can’t wait to start!
Sharon from the Thumb of Michigan
Hi Sharon;
We’re planning to help with tips and tutorials and you can bet we’ll do something with seaming! Welcome aboard!
Julia
I will love to do this. Of course I’ll have to rearrange my schedule (like I have one ha!) to fit this in. With two kids, a husband and a full time job it’s gonna get a bit hard, but I’ll do my best.
I’ll try to finish the project I’m working on right now, so I can concentrate on one thing at a time.
But you can count me in…..
Can’t wait for the first clue!!!!!
Really looking forward to this as I am rather new to knitting and don’t have anyone to help me “hands-on”.
I will be joining.
This sounds like fun. I haven’t knitted in a while; and I need to brush up on my technique. I have a christmas stocking pattern from the 1950′s that I want to try; so this should get me warmed up.
I’ve never blogged before – that could be my biggest challenge.
Hi Vicki;
You don’t need to have a blog, or even post to join in. Just relax and knit!
Julia.
I’ll be working this afghan in blues and deep purples. Looking forward to seeing how it all works out.
Hopefully my budget will allow for me to do this.
)
I hope my budget will allow for it. I’m pretty new to knitting as well. Sounds like a great way to practice different techniques.
)
Im in…just hope I can figure out how a knit along works…good luck everyone!!
Hi Ginya;
There’s not much too it – just read and knit! Check back for an upcoming FAQ post.
Julia.
I’m curious.
I’d love to join. Hopefully my budget will allow!
)
This sounds like fun. I can’t wait until Oct 23!
I’ve been in a baby blanket making frenzy the last few years and my 6 year old keeps asking when I’m going to make a blanket big enough for him. I’m using camel, sable and lapis. Hopefully he won’t outgrow the colors!
Love the idea and the project count me n. Mary Ann
Sounds like fun, I love a good mystery!!
Hi, Great idea can hardly wait for directions. Mary Ann
Have never done a knit-a-long before. Am excited to be joining. Here we go.
Fingers crossed my wool arrives in time – tried to buy it in Scotland but couldn’t find a stockist, so it’s coming from Florida via air mail. (Hope they include some sun in the package!)
count me in
Count me in. Sounds like a great idea.
Sounds great. I live in a small town and was just wishing I had knitting group or something to do this winter. This will work!! Sounds like great fun. I’m always up for a mystery!!
I think this sounds like fun but am not looking forward to sewing blocks together — am I bad?
Hi Kathy;
You’re not bad! I also dislike any part of a knitting project that isn’t actually, well, knitting! We’ll try to help you out with seaming tips.
Julia.
I live in a small town and was thinking a knitting group would be fun this winter. This will work perfectly!! Looking forward for a reason to buy more yarn!!
I think this sounds interesting and since I already make afghans for charity new ideas of patterns for squares will be very welcome.
Count me in.
count me in
I am excited about this project. Can’t wait to get my yarn.
Kay
Sounds like fun ….count me in.
wow cool idea .. count me in
I am ready to do it. I have ordered my yarn and can’t wait to begin.
I am ready. Yarn has been ordered. Needles are reserved. What5 else do I need….maybe a cup of coffee???
This will be my first Knit-A-Long.
Sounds like fun. Can’t wait to get started.
im looking forward to the knit along! i have been knitting alot of hats, blankets, baby blankeys, etc this year so this sounds like fun. maybe it will help me get my hubbys blanket done by xmas!
I read about this last night and today drove to Austin, TX, where this yarn is sold (my town is too small). I bought 2 of the 3 colors but was disappointed when they had none of the 3rd color so I will order it on-line. Our entire area is woefully “under-crafted” — can’t understand why someone doesn’t open a 5-star craft store with yarns and such. Anyway — count me in! janet b in Texas
What a wonderful idea… Can’t wait for the first “clue”!!!
Suzanne – Sormany, NB
I can’t wait to get started!
This sounds awesome, and I am excited about joining the mystery knit-along. I can’t wait to get started.
I am ready for a new project. I hope I can do it, haven’t knitted in a while.
Knit-along sounds like fun. It will be interesting to see what it turns out like.
New at knitting and of course new to knit-a-longs, but look forward to the surprise at the end!
This will be a new experience for me. I can’t wait to get started!!
This sounds like a lot of fun! I’m a beginner so I hope I can do this. I think I will be looking for help, so it’s great that this is a knit-along. Can’t wait!
Powell River, BC
Hi Tania;
We’ll help as much as we can. Welcome aboard!
Julia.
I’ve never done a knit along, so this should be fun!!!
Thanks for this wonderful idea!
Yes I would like to try this, sounds like fun.
I’d love to join – but living in Bangkok have no access to Bernat yarn – besides which, I have enough stash to start a store. Any problem if I do it using stash yarn? I do realize it would probably disqualify me from the prize…. I love KALs and a mystery one sounds even more fun!
Hi Riki -
Feel free to use stash yarn to make the blanket – and you’ll still be eligible for the prize if you enter the content. Keep in mind the finished size may differ if the yarn you use is different.
Glad to join. I use Bernat for a lot of my projects. So far this year I’ve knitted 5 baby sets and 4 sweaters and a few touques for my grandchildren.Knitting is a passion. Maddy
This sounds like a lot of fun. Are some of the squares multi-colored? Is that why we need more of one color?
Hi Karen;
Each square is knit in one solid colour only. We used three different colours, but you can use just one, or as many as you like! There is more of one colour for good reason, but I don’t want to give too much away!
Julia.
Sounds like fun, I have never done a KAL before. I wish we didn’t have to remember to come back and check for new updates…I am very forgetful! When should the first square be ready to go?
Hi Monica;
The first ‘clue’ will be posted Friday October 23. Welcome aboard!
Julia.
My first KAL. I AM IN! This should be fun.
Mum and I are in. We are buying yarn tomorrow. Can’t wait! Luckily the Australian spring is a bit more like winter at the moment so we should be able to get this done, no problems!!
(famous last words!!!)
Sounds like a lot of fun! I can’t wait to see what the surprises are—-I will look for the yarn today.
Sounds like a lot of fun—i love surprises!!
This will be my first knit along project. I’m looking forward to it.
Madeleine
I would love to try and follow your knit along. I am really going to try. Living in Switzerland I might not be able to find the same wool as you are going to use. I will try and get something similar. Looking forward to the starting date.
Hi Madeleine;
Check back for an upcoming FAQ post where we address questions like where to find our yarn. Even if you need to substitute the yarn, you’re welcome to knit along and will still be eligible to enter our draw.
Julia.
I’m in. I can hardly wait.
looking forward to this project
My first time being part of a “knit-along”. It should be fun and I am looking forward to the experience. Can’t wait to get started.
Ordered my yarn yesterday. Can’t wait to get atarted!
This sounds like fun! Count me in!
OMG..I’ve never done this before so I hope it turns out well. I really don’t knit much but I do crochet.
I think this wil be fun!
Hello there,
I just found out about the knit along today and luckily get paid this week — so will be shopping right away. I have never done a mystery project like this before so I’m looking forward to knitting along with everyone out there.
I am all set to go on this. Son heleped me chose my colours and I even wrote about it on my blog today. Hope some of my online friends will join in and we can encourage each other.
I am so stoked for this. I’ve never participated in a KAL before but I’ve wanted to and I am determined to do so this time. I might even convince my mom to join me.
Sounds like a blast!
I’m definetly in, sounds like a good side project to help relax with.
Sounds like fun! Any excuse to get out and buy some wool.
Sounds like fun, a great winter project. I’m in.
I can hardly wait to begin, my fingers are itching!!
At my advanced age anything new will be a great adventure. Have been knitting for ??? years–now it’s all for charities. I know they will love a different afghan. Count me in/.
Count me in. I will need a lot of help.
We’ll do our best to help you out!
Julia.
I haven’t made an afghan in years…
This will be fun! Great idea!
Hi I am so excited about the knit-along being a self taught knitter I can’t wait to talk to a knitting family.
I always like to learn something new and to share it with other like minded people as my self it is just great.
What a great idea! I went to my local store this morning and purchased the yarn. While standing in line a leday behind me commented on the nice colours I had chosen. The conversation ended with her wanting to check this out. Really looking forward to getting this started.
I’m in, the KAL idea is great! off to pick out colours…
Mary Maxim on line has a good price on this yarn. I mail ordered as I don’t have a store close to me to buy it.
I got everything I needed at the local store. Can not wait to start!
never joined a kal before but it sounds like fun. Will get the wool and needles ready for the 23rd.
I would like to join the KAL….I could only learn to
knit when I learned what I was told is the Continental
way..I have not been brave enough to try cable but have
done a few items.
I have done many crochet items and well advanced with
that..
Thank you ..
fawn
Cables are a piece of cake – no matter which way you knit! We’ll make sure to help you out with tips and tutorials.
Julia.
Looking forward to this KAL. My first one.
I am looking forward to knitting along.
I bought my wool today and now I can,t wait to get started.
I can’t wait!! I’m new to knitting and very eager – looking forward to getting started
I’ve already bought some of my yarn and am looking forward to getting started. Never done anything like this before so I’m really excited.
I’m a newbie knitter but I would love to try out the knit a long! This sounds like fun!
OMG! This is awesome. I have been knitting since I was 8(now 35). My grandma taught me. I am so excited about KAL! I don’t know many others that knit other than me and my grandma(now 85). It will be fun to be able to talk with other knitters.
Love Bernat Satin and the colors are wonderful for my home. Can’t wait to find out more about the mysterious patterns. I love to crochet, but knitting is a nice change and I can handle one square at a time! Let’s go!
This sounds like fun, never done a KAL! I’l have to get my yarns, I’ll be ready… still warm for a couple of months here in Texas!!
Im in.
I’m in. Heaven knows I don’t need another knitting project, but I do love a good knit-along!
I am looking forward to the knit along. I love surprises.
Sounds like fun. I haven’t done anything like this before………Can’t wait to get the yarn.
Can’t wait to start.
can’t wait to get started – sounds like fun
Sounds like fun!! Going to pick up my supplies today!
I am looking forward to this project. I may be a little slow at this, but it will not give up. Thanks for this great idea.
Sharon
Thank you for this great project. Count me in.
I WILL BE HAPPY TO TRY YOUR KAL. I’M NOT A GREAT KNITTER, BUT I KEEP TRYING. DO YOU KNOW IF THERE IS A SIGHT THAT SHOWS YOU HOW TO DO CERTAIN STITCHES. I HAVE A BOOK BUT WATCHING IS SO MUCH EASIER THAN READING FROM A BOOK. LOVE TO HEAR BACK FROM YOU.
THROUGH MY EMAIL WOULD BE BEST IF THAT IS POSSIBLE. THANKS
Hi Kelly;
We plan on adding tutorials to help you with any unusual stitches in the KAL. Also try the ‘resourses’ and ‘new to craft’ drop-down menus at the top of the Bernat homepage. For videos, its amazing how much is out there on youtube!
Julia.
I never knew how to purl into the front and back loop. Then I checked out youtube and they had a great video on it. So much nicer then trying look in a book.
This sounds like a lot of fun.
Especially KAL (never done this before)
plus I love knitting with “Bernat” yarn.
Does this mean you can sign in anytime of day
on the 23rd ??
The first clue will be posted sometime on the 23rd. You can check in anytime after that as the clue won’t be deleted.
Lokng forward to the project and some new stitches.
When does this KAL start?
The first clue for the Knit Along will be released on Friday, Oct 23rd.
Looking forward to trying this one.
thanks
How long will the clues be available? Just on the day they’re posted?
Hi Lynn -
The clues will be available for at least the duration of the Knit-Along (through the winter). You can stop by anytime and get any older clues you may have missed.
I’m so excited about this KAL concept. I’m not even a blogger but I guess now I am. Can’t wait to get started!! Looking for my yarn tomorrow.
I got my yarn ordered, should be here either tomorrow or Friday. I’m looking forward to starting this.
It sounds like fun! I once participated in a counted cross-stich mystery project. I really enjoyed doing it.
My only question–can we change the colors?
Hi Nonna,
Yes! Feel free to select any colors you like.
Wait. You guys just scared me lol. I have never used cable needles. Do we need cable needles or just straight needles?
Hi, I’m a beginner. Will I manage?
Thanks. Great idea.
Love to join. Like making sampler afghans. I do more crochet work, but also do knitting as well. Curious as to what the finished project will look like.
My first KAL and my first afghan. I’m going home to check my stash. Very curious to see the outcome. Just hope I can keep up.
I am new to the world of blogging, but not knitting. Sounds like it could be fun.
Picked up my Bernat Satin at Joann’s tonight. Looking forward to my first KAL….I’m a beginner knitter, but hopefully I can pick up the new stitches.
JILL
Sounds like fun…I am really a crocheter so this should be fun
I have trouble finishing an afghan. I think this will help!!
I’d love to knit along with everyone. I’ve never done this before but I think it should be fun.
Well I am a beginner; I can cast on, knit & purl so I’m attempting this sampler to learn new stitches. Hopefully I will survive. I would describe myself as an intermediate crocheter. I have made so many afghans and lap robes I can’t begin to count, but all by crochet. Soooo here goes.
I’ve always crocheted afghans–so I’m excited to make a knitted one. I’m buying my yarn tomorrow.
Let the “clicking of the needles” begin!!
Anyone from new jersey—monmouth county area?
Im from union county area, go Jersey?! Why?
I’ve never done a kal before, I’m ready and willing to learn something new.
My yarn came today, wish it was the 23rd!! The yarn is so silky
I am so excited about the KAL and went out to get my yarn today. So many colours to choose from. I could not get the ones called for but did find colours I liked and they were on sale buy one ball get one ball free. I think this was all ment to come together.lol
I am so looking forward to the KAL. This is the forst time I have done anything like this!
I need an afghan! Am going to get the wool today.
Looking forward to the 23rd!!!!
SD
Count me in … I’m looking forward to actually finishing something … the help using the KAL should be a great motivator. Thanks
I have never done one of these but it looks interesting. I am not the strongest of knitters but I figure what the heck I’ll give it a try. I am thinking this could be fun. I stumbled on to this because I was looking for a wrist warmer pattern that you could knit but on regular needles not double pointed needles.
I don’t usually do afghans I am looking forward to this.
ok I am all ready!! I went out this morning and picked up my yarn. I went with 3 of the newer Bernat Satin colors rouge, lavender and fern. I decided i might as well have a little fun with the colors since this will be my first knit throw. can’t wait until the 23rd.
Can’t wait, sounds like fun, I like to make things in blocks, they are easier to pick up and knit alittle any time. I wish I could find some knitters and/or clubs in my area. The colors sound very pretty.
Quick Question for the Bernat Blog folks…
I see that the blog remembers me when I come back … is there anyway it could mark the new posts so I can easily tell what I need to read and what I’ve already read? It is nice that stuff is threaded, but because of that I’m afraid I’ll miss something so I start at the top every time I come back…

Hi Jan – There isn’t a feature that allows you to mark comments as read currently. We’ll keep this in mind and look into allowing this for future knit- and crochet-alongs.
In the meantime, you may find it useful to note the date or time you last checked the comments, which may make it easier to find your place.
JanV, your description of the 4 pieces of paper is actually quadrupling the size of the afghan. Doubling would be twice the size, thus twice the amount of the yarn.
I’ve chosen teal, aqua and snow. I hope this works up ok. Difficult when ya don’t know what the finished project is going to be like.
I’m excited to join in on this new adventure.
I’ll try to follow all the step and finish it in time!!! I wish to be able!!!
Will be making this as a gift for my almost 3 year old granddaughter. Had my daughter pick out 3 colors she liked and told her the rest is a mystery! Can’t wait!
Never did a knit-along but will try. Can’t wait to start!!!!
This sounds like a fun project to try. It will be a mystery to me if I can get it done, but I will try. I only knit a little bit so I will be calling for some help.
I have never done a blog before. I hope this works. I knitted
my first 2 baby afghans this summer. This sounds like fun!!
Hello everyone! I am very excited to try this kal with you. I have been knitting for only about a year. I learned to crochet many years ago and decided to try knitting. I am hooked! I have only made scarves and am starting to make a pair of socks. I’m willing to try this now. I can’t wait to start!
Hello every one looking forward to starting this kal with everyone this is new to me so i made be a little slow … But am looking forward to this ..
Thank You
See Everyone Soon
Jackie
Hi,
As it is getting close to the start I want to check my gauge, but I have a few questions since I’ve never done this before.
1. How do you knit a gauge swatch? What stitches do you use? Knit every row? alternate knit and purl rows? How many stitches do you cast on? How many rows do you knit?
2. How do you count the stitches?
3. What type of cable needle do we need for this project?
4. What size will the finished blocks be?
5. Do we have to use the ‘pattern’ for joining the blocks in order to enter the contest?
6. If we make the afghan larger can we use a fourth color? This might involve changing the pattern of the blocks when they are joined – can we still enter the contest?
Oh and I have some general questions about how changing needle sizes affects block size and amount of yarn used.
1. If my gauge is too tight I need to move up a size in needles – right? How will that effect the amount of yarn I use – the block size should come out the same – right?
2. If you are ‘on gauge’ but want he afghan to be just a tad larger – is it practical to go up a needle size? How will this effect the amount of yarn used and the size of the block?
I think that’s about it for questions now. I’m sure I’ll run into more as it goes. Can’t wait to get started!
JanV (NStitches)
Hi Jan -
Here are the answers to a few of your questions:
1 – We’ll talk about gauge swatches a bit in our post tomorrow, but generally you’ll want enough stitches to get consistent gauge over 4 inches. I’d recommend at least 6 inches worth of stitches for that (it’s easy to calculate how many stitches to cast on – take the recommended gauge over 4 inches and multiply it by 1.5 or double it to get something approximately 6-8 inches wide).
3 – any type of cable needle is ok. Even a appropriate-sized double pointed needle would work! We’ll also show you some options for knitting cables without a cable needle.
4 – finished blocks will be 10 x 8 inches (25.5 x 20.5 cm)
5 – to enter the contest, you’ll need to knit the blocks in the pattern, at least as many times as are recommended. any more you make is acceptable, and small variations in the pattern for joining the blocks are ok (email knitalong@bernatyarns.com to check about your specific example).
6 – yes, you can use a 4th color, thereby changing the order of the blocks somewhat, and still enter the contest.
1-By gauge is too tight, i assume you mean you have too many stitches per inch on your swatch. In this case, you would want to go up to a larger needle size. If you get the recommended gauge with the larger needle, the block should be the same size.
2 – I’d recommend doing a swatch with the larger needle – changing needle size can change the texture and drape of a fabric. You may find it’s too loose and lacy with the larger needle. If it seems good to you, this will make you go up a bit in total size.
count me in. Never have done a NAL, looking forward to this project
Took me a while to decide on colors, but count me in. I am excited by it being a mystery. Tried that with quilting and it was lots of fun.
Can’t wait to start the knit-along. I’ve never participated in one before.
My yarn came this morning – just in time. Can’t wait to start.
I was very happy to find all the yarn I needed for the knit-along today at my local Michaels store. I’m very happy to join everyone in this project. Happy knitting, everyone!
I am buyin my yarn this weekend!!
I am very happy to see so many people joining the knit along. I have never been involved in one before and I am looking forward to it. I bought my yarn yesterday and I am starting today. I have been kitting for many year and my best friend and I used to knit together, unfortunately we lost her to brest cancer several years ago and I miss the help and company. so looking forward to this.
This sounds like fun; can’t wait to start.
I’ve never done a KAL before, but am really excited to say I’ve finished my first block already! I am a bit concerned, however, as I had to use a size 10 needle to get the right gage. Is that unusual?
TSmidler,
I hope it is not unusual because I had to do the same thing.
Do you mean as in size 10mm to get the right gage? Taht is a huge size needle
No. 10 U.S. I believe that is a 6 mm. I’ve only done the gauge sample so far. I had to do 2 of them to get the right needle size.
Great, thanks for the FYI., I am just starting mine now.
my yarn only just arrived! can’t wait to start now…
I’ve just started and I’m already in trouble. It’s the even numbered rows I’m not sure about. Do they all start with K2. The chart makes it appear that they start with P2. I have a great deal of difficulty distinguishing a completed purl stitch from a completed knit stitch in the first few rows. If I can get row 2 done correctly, I should have no trouble with the other even rows.
I was having the same problem as you. It took me a while to figure the graph out, but I wrote each stitch out going by the graph and it worked out great.
I have never worked with a graph before, but now that I understand the alternate rows, I really like it. I just have to pay careful attention to what I’m doing. Also, now that there is some length to the square, I can recognize the stitches which really helps when I get distracted and lose count.
I think I may have answered my own question. On the graph, do I read even rows from left to right and reverse the meaning of the symbols from what they are on odd rows?
Exact-amundo! the chart shows what you see in the fabric looking at the “right” side.
Well, I’ve just finished the second color! Looking forward to the next clue (yes, I know there’s one more color to do, but I’m impatient). I don’t really understand how to use the blog and newsfeeds, though.
I have finished a square and found using 6mm knitting needles gave me the correct gauge. Using 5mm made the square way too small. Thanks. Looking foward to the next clue.
Gloria
I have done one piece with a 4 mm needle, the 6mm was the right gauge but my stitches were ‘way too loose, I could see getting things tangled in the finished knitting. I like the tighter knitting. My pieces will be smaller by a half-inch all around.
I used the 5mm suggested. Mine too was a little small. Tried the 5.5 mm, but the stiches seemed loose even though I got the right gauge. Decided to go back and knit with the 5mm. Liked the smoother finish. Also most needles above 5mm are plastic not metal and I did not enjoy knitting this yarn on the plastic.
I sure hope I am reading this graph corretly. Anyone else have any trouble understanding the graph?/ I have never used a grph before
I am a novice myself and have never used a graph before either so I hope I am telling you correctly. If not, I’m sure someone will jump in and correct things. This is how I believe the graph works: Read the odd numbered rows from right to left. On these rows, blank spaces are knit and dashes are purl. Read even numbered rows from left to right. On these rows, blank spaces are purl and dashes are knit. This is how I did mine. If I am incorrect, I hope someone catches it quickly.
Howdy Janice – You can ignore the graph and follow the written out instructions, if the graph continues to be a problem.
My difficulties while learning to use stitch graphs were 1. remembering to change directions when I started a new row; 2. accepting that on the WS, the stitches are opposite. I mean, “knit on the RS, purl on the WS” or vice versa. Really took my brain a while to relax on this. I needed several months to make an ordinary size scarf; I became the “frog princess” that year, lol.
TIP: Eventually, I tied a big fuzzy bow on the RS to make me stop and think: “read right to left” AND a bright, CLASHING ribbon on the WS, “read, opposite stitches”. The clashing was a mnemonic that the colors didn’t go together, so I needed to do the “opposite” stitch to make the pattern “go”. (I’m a verbal person, so this worked for me.)
Anyway, the period of adjustment was rough, but now, when a cable or lace pattern does NOT have charts, I rarely bother.
If you’re interested in cables and lace, I encourage you to work from the graph, then review the row using the written instructions. If you have to tink or frog, please don’t be frustrated: It’ll pay off as you become more accomplished using chartwork.
Good luck and have fun!
Read the odd numbered rows from right to left, even numbered rows from right to left.
Oops. Should have said:
Odd: Right to left
Even: Left to right
I have never done a knit along before and thought it would be fun.
I’m not sure I feel like that now. I have been having fits with the directions and I am not a new knitter. Reading this blog has helped and I’m not going to give up yet. Thanks for all the replies, they do help.
I started tonight and was thinking the same thing – I am not having fun. Perhaps when I get farther along it will look better and I will feel better too.
I numbered the rows on the left side of the graph — 2,4,6,etc. I also drew tiny arrows beside each row to show me which direction to read from. It really helps to isolate each row on the graph by covering the rows not being worked with a piece of blank paper. Magnetic boards are good for using with charts. The magnets hold my blank paper firmly against the chart Hope this helps. One more thing: Every row begins with at least K2 on both right and wrong sides. Knit on!
I’m wanting to begin the KAL but have noticed that the written instructions do not match the graph. Which is correct? Thanks
I used the chart. Didn’t really compare the two. My pattern seems right. Good luck. I haven’t read that anyone else thinks they are different. I will have to compare.
I went by both chart and the written instructions. They do match up correcttly.
It just took a couple of trys to get it right. Just make sure you read the chart as right to left is the right side and left to right is the wrong side
I used the written instructions then when I got forgot where I was I looked at the graph vs. my knitting. That worked, but so did looking carefully at the last row and counting Ps and Ks to locate the row number
I now have two pieces of 3 complete pattern repeats each.
Well this is the first time I have ever done a mystery knit along. I have two of the three squares completed and can’t wait for the next clue. I just followed the written pattern instructions and had no problems…..
Finished my third square and they came out exactly the same. Great. I used the chart and color coded it with color pencils. That worked great for me. Can’t wait for the next clue.
I really like that idea philly53 had for colour coding the graph.
Love the colored pencil idea!! I’m going to do that with my graph. It will it so much easier to see at a glance. Thanks for the tip.
I did the pencil colouring of the graph. It is awesome. makes it much easier to read the graph. I will do it for all the following clues
I colored my graph last night also. It really helped a lot–makes reading the graph a lot faster and easier. Like Janice, I will do it for all the following clues.
Another idea someone told me about is using index cards. They put each row of instruction on a separate index card, punch holes in the top of the card and tie them together. Then, after completing a row, they flip the index card over. That way, they always know what row they are on.
Glad I could help you ladies out. Yes, coloring the graph makes it so quick and easy. As the patterns get more intricate, we may have to use more colors.
Just wish there wasn’t so much going on right now…just finally started clue 1 and now 2 is out….will be glad when the antique shows are done and can concentrate on knitting…then also have to get past homework…ugh…
I bought my yarn today. It is on sale for $2.00 at Michaels this week. So I will start on it tonight.
Having fun knitting the squares; I usually crochet so I am finding this interesting, Instructions are easy.
I think this was a great and fun idea. Oh got to finish my last square before I look at clue # 2
is it too late to say i want in? even though i am nearly finished with all 6 blocks.
Oh, goody! I was wondering when the second clue would be put up and see that it already is!
I made all three of my blocks at the same time so that I would know they would all be the same size. It really went quickly so I may need to start another project to keep me busy in my “down time.”
I guess Im the only one out here that made the first 2 blocks but they don’t match the picture. As I read the directions it says knit th knit stitches and purl the purl stitches so that is what I did. I don’t handle graphs well so I stuck to the written directions. In my opnion the directions should have read differently. I think it should have read
row 2 K2[ K1 P1 K1 P1 P6] 4 times K2
I’m a little frustrated because now I have to start over because my squares don’t look like the picture.
My squares aren’t the same either cause I didn’t read the instructions right, but I’m not starting over I’ just leave them as they are and just be mote carefull with clue 2 LOL
For the 1st block I had 54 rows to make 8 inches and 50 rows to make 8 inches for the 2nd block. Will the number of rows make a difference when I sew them together? I like the look of the second block.
Technically, what we’re doing here is not a certain number of rows but size. So if your size is the same, when you sew it together, it should not make a difference. The first pattern, however, is rather stretchy, so make sure they really are the same by taking both off the needles and laying them on top of each other.
Hi-I tried making the design using yarn from my stash–but wasn’t happy witht he results. Soo I went and bought 1 skein of the satin yarn and WOW what a difference! Today I purchased the rest of my colors ans am really excited about working on my afghan. The patterns remind me of waves on the ocean so my colors are in the blue family. Can’t wait for #3.
I am so happpy with the finished product in clue #1. Now I am onto #2 and I find using the chart so much easier. The yarn is so soft,I can eimagine how it will be when it is finished. I am looking forward to all the new clues. No more fear.
I started knitting the first clue and then put it aside as I was very busy the first week of the kal. Also my time to knit is usually when watching TV and I needed to rewrite the pattern so I could just count the pattern in my head instead of needing to constantly look at the work to “knit the purls and purl the knits”. I went on to the next clue (will go back and finish first when I have extra time). I seemed to need less rows for 8 inches. I know there is a lot of stretch in the first square, but shouldn’t there be the same number of rows in each block to match up when joining. I wonder how many rows others have used in the different blocks.
Well, I’m late to the party, but I bought my yarn yesterday and already had the right size needles, so I’m in!
Hi:
Saw the Knit Along and thought I would try it. Started knitting when I was young. Thought I would give the crochet hook a rest and start knitting again. It’s like riding a bike; you never forget the basic stitches.
This is also my first blog too.
I’m a little behind in my knitting due to a family emergency and Thanksgiving. I really loved the second clue design. Hopefully I can begin the third clue sometime this week, although I’ll be busy with Christmas projects.
I hope everyone is enjoying this as much as I am.
I must tell you–I have gotten seriously detoured away (temporarily) from the KAL. One Friday, there was a “Free Pattern Friday” with a reversable cable scarf. So far I have knit eight of them for gifts. Here’s the fun part. I have found out that when I knit it with a trus ombre yarn, it seems a rule that a rick rack pattern develops that makes the scarf look incredibly amazing!!!!
As far as the KAL, I like to join my squares with a slip stitch, so on each I have left a three foot tail for future joining. When will we be provided with the placement chart–I like to join-as-you-go in pieced projects!
With only two new patterns left I have started sewing in strays and blocking, it didn’t occur to me to leave long tales for joining?…I love the knitting but do not like the sewing together part…any advice for making the joining less yukky
(that’s a technical term) is mor than welcome!
I meant “true ombre”–typing booboo!!!
One Friday, there was a “Free Pattern Friday” with a reversable cable scarf. Where can I find this pattern?
Hi crafty -
In the blog post, if you click on the image, it will take you right to the pattern. You’ll need to sign in to bernat.com, but that will just give you access to hundreds of free patterns in addition to that one.
The comments were being sent to my email. All of a sudden they have stopped coming and I don’t know how to get them started again. I am missing out on helpful information.
Hi Pauline -
When you post a comment you have the option to select ‘Notify me of follow-up comments via email’. That applies only to that individual post, not to the entire blog. Most of the commenting is happening on newer posts (the ones with the new clues for the pattern). To get emails for those, you’ll just need to comment on the post, selecting the ‘notify me’ check box.
Hope that makes sense!
I am like Pauline and a little confused by this blog and how to follow it — but I am loving the “mystery” and am so anxious to get each clue. It is a thrill to know I am doing it right — and can hardly wait for the new clue to come out — Will my Christmas preparations get done? or will I just knit? My question is — I am now into my second skein of yarn — will I have enough? or do I need to go get another skein of each color? Is this about where I should be — I am thinking it is going to be tight — any ideas?
Thanks
I understand about checking the notify me when I want to see follow ups to my posts, but I was receiving an email every time someone posted (whether it was a follow up to my post or not), then they stopped coming. I went back and re-subscribed and started getting them again until about the time Clue 4 came out. Then the emails stopped coming again. It seems as though I periodically have to re-subscribe.
sorry for the double up — I didn’t check the “notify” box Thanks for your patience
I am really enjoying the KAL–love the blog and reading all the comments. My knitting has taken a back seat to Christmas–
I would love to know about the amount of yarn needed for the rest of the project — I am into my second skein of yarn for each color — is this going to be enough to finish? or do I need to get another skein ? Thanks
Hi Kathy – Here are the yarn requirements for the afghan:
Bernat® Satin (100 g/3.5 oz; 149 m163 yds)
Contrast A – We used ‘Silk’ (04007) 4 balls
Contrast B – We used ‘Camel’ (04010l) 3 balls
Contrast C – We used ‘Banana’ (04615 ) 3 balls
I was getting worried about the yarn — I am using the yarn that was suggested the Bernat Satin in the colors suggested as well. I love the patterns so far — I just wasn’t sure if I was using the yarn maybe too quickly but upon doing the math again — I think that I am all right — there will be 8 blocks made of each of the 3 colors correct? Maybe I am having too much fun trying to figure out the mystery —
Well all the kids have finally left after visiting for Chirstmas. I am ready for the next clue to come in, as some yarn I ordered for other projects for next years Christmas Gifts will be arriving next week.
I am enjoying the patterns and have had no problems with them so far.
Keep up the good work.
Joan
I am slowly working on my mystery afghan–don’t have as much time to give the project as I would like.
I am enjoying it and the different patterns.
I don’t think that I will have it done in time to enter it in the contest though.
I hope everyone is having fun with this, too.
Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying the project. I would NEVER have tried the patterns had it not been for this project. After several “start-overs” I do finally achieve the desired results. I do not have a lot of quiet time for this type of project so am several squares behind. Thank you so much for the wonderfully clear instructions that have shown me I am still not too old to learn new stuff.
